Your Wingdude size, (he likes Kawasaki V-Force) you might want something alittle bigger. My first quad was Raptor 660R, I didn't know a thing about riding, (some might claim I still don't ), and haven't had to upgrade to a larger more powerful quad, (my 700R doesn't count), you just learn how to take it easy on the powerband and within time you utilize all it's power.

Bottom line, don't underpower yourself, you'll master the quad in no time at all

RMC has one of the best selection of quads for you to try on for size.

Welcome to the thread

Default Puget Sound/Seattle/Pacific Northwest Area Riders Meet HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again for all the great replies! I am very pleased to have found a friendly community already! I have been shopping around casually for the past 2 months. I purposely started early because I knew it would take some time and research and poking around to make a really good decision. I am aware that my audience here is probably jaded to some extent, hehe.

I suspect finding the right machine is going to be easier for the wife and child than for me. Either of them could comfortably fit on an array of machines from 200 on up it seems, so the real question is displacement and then features such as manual/auto, etc. The fact that I'm such a big guy means I have the ongoing problem of legroom and knee clearance, etc etc.

So far I'm finding that this seems to leave me to the big machines like the 700s. I did check out the KFX 700 (Kawi) specs online a few minutes ago, and it looks interesting but I was disappointed to see that it weighs 516lbs. I have been thinking a lighter machine would be easier to toss around and in the event of the rollover, might not inflict as much damage to the unfortunate schmuck that finds himself underneath. Am I too worried about this, or is it a valid thought?

My wife rode a KFX700, (I rode it alot more than she did) and we both enjoyed it very much. You'll learn to toss around that quad, especially with your size. I wouldn't worry about the weight issue of rolling it over on yourself, no matter what size, they all sting to some extent.

I've had the KFX700, 660R and 700R all roll over on top of me, one didn't hurt anymore than the other, kick it off to the side, brush yourself off, jump back on and show it who's boss

Not to worry. Quads are pretty easy to get out from under. If your going fast enough just grab the root of a passing tree. You'll stop and the quad will keep on going. A heavier quad will cartwheel a little further though due to intertia and all that. Or you could ride within the realm of your abilities (as far as I know nobody has been able to stick with that philosophy). As for the size of machines, you can buy taller bars or bar risers if you feel cramped or you hit your knees.

And 700's are for the REAL OLD guys.

Ha, you can hear me downshift right before I came by. That wasn't even top speed. Wish you would have gotten the perfect side stop when I slid in at the end.

My few pics along with your woolies are up in the album in my sig, too.

TP might have a competitor for long haul and high speed woolies.
