Default Sand near Ohio?

I have always rode on dirt but really want to try the sand. Where is the nearest place to ride the sand from Ohio?

Your best bet would be Silver Lake in Michigan OR the Badlands in Attica, Indiana has some (very little) sand. Most of the riding at the Badlands is small, pea sized gravel.

Silver Lake is your best bet. Its amazing! Definitly worth the ride, about 7 hours from you. Stay the whole weekend, or the whole week!

You'll have a blast!

I lived in cincy for 6 months and couldn't wait to leave. Nuthin but black mud, go west 1 state and you get red mud.

Good luck on your quest for sand.

When I get to Silver Lake, are there any issues that I need to know about. Examples: Do I need a sticker of any kind to ride? Where would I get it? Actually address or general location of riding area? How late into the season can I go ride?

Sounds like what I'm looking for. I've been riding for 25 years and I have never seen the sand.

All the info you need is here:

http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7...4760--,00.html

You can get the stickers right at the park itself $16.25 for the Michigan sticker (good until March '04) and you will need a daily pass for your truck and quad. Those are $4.00 each.

If you decide to go now... it's gonna be COLD! Wear lots of clothing. Silver Lake is right on Lake Michigan and the wind from Lake Michigan is COLD!!

We went up in April. It was cold then! And we even found some snow that hadn't melted all the way. It was burried under the sand. We also went back in August and it was perfect.

Jen, it sounds like you ride there alot, are there alot of large trailers down there? I am kinda worried about getting my truck and trailer stuck... My parents have a house on lake erie, and even though I am told that lake erie sand is completely different then everthing else, I still worrie cause I know how hard it was to extract my truck and trailer from that beach...

Outracing--

Silver Lake has a seperate parking lot that is a mixture of stone and sand. Trust me, you will not get stuck. Great place to ride. If you go there, you will see that you are not the only one with a truck and trailer.
