Sorry long post
I also use to ride back there but not sure If I want to take the chance to go back. I was riding there last march/april and it was cool no one bothered us we even ran into a couple of jeep cherokees(Land developers) and just went around them. Then I became one of those knuckleheads and in one of the pits that is right on the shoulder of the tnpk you could ride up the hill and touch the guardrail and be like 5-10 ft away from the traffic. Next thing I know there is a nj tnpk maintance worker in a pickup just sitting there watching us, but he didn't saying anything. I guess what he did is call the state police cause next thing I notice is a trooper walking down the hill coming towards me. I turned off my machine and first thing he did was compliment me on my rapter asking me how I liked it and all questions like that then he's like sorry man you can't ride here you must be 50ft away from the tnpk there is a fiber optic cable running along the roadway that cost like 500k for a 100ft and it broke and they want to blame the atv's. I was new and didn't know where to ride so I asked him and he's like oh I ride here all the time with my buddies but you have to be 50ft away "maybe I'll see you out one day" and left. Heres the new information I came accross I recently talked to a girl I use to talk to that now works for the meadowlands. I was telling her how I hate them she asked why I started to tell her about riding and "she was like omg I know they hate the motorbikes and are really strict about it now. They have security patroling the meadows and have local law inforcement helping out. They even have camaras setup to look for people riding in there".

Daumn is this an old thread you found
Yea I have heard of some of those, but have not rode any in a long while.
With all the heat around I have been sticking to places I know well, NJORVP, and trips to PA.
It was actually pretty interesting to read this thread again after so much time has passed, but was sad to see how little has changed, and how much we still have to get done if we want legal riding in NJ.

Actually when its wet there its even worse for your ride, but deff better for the lungs. I think the local stuff we have here in central/south Jersey is pretty similar except the dust is from sand and not coal, and when its wet our terrain tends to turn into cement (actually what most of the quarries around here turn it into ) so its a toss up untill you remember all the tight stuff and hills there and how were having to look over our shoulders here so we dont end up paying crazy fines and getting towed.
First time I rode there was just after a hurricane and many of the trails were like small streams on the lower sections, and it was no fun getting that black **** coal dirt out of everything.

Legal? I doubt it since the only legal places here are Chatsworth/njorvp (the only full time year round with tracks and trails) Raceway park (certain weekends only ) Atco raceway (limited mid week nights) and Mt pleasant if they ever recover from their insurance problems and open full time.
There is a plan to try and open up a new area in the NW part of NJ (near w. milford) but that is still in its infancy though there was some recent good news and some forward momentum, but for now thats about it thats past the idea stage.

If you find the right people you may also find some of the few remaining good spots around that are not popular enough to afford much police or ranger attention, but understandablly most all those with any remaining "safe spots" are really protective of them too. So you may not find much out until you gain their trust etc, but still all of these are not legal and we remain a targeted source of income for the state and many towns.
One good thing is that there are various plans to change all this anti off road attitude in NJ and with some support of the riders here and just a little sacrifice of time etc it will happen, but until then keep your eyes open here and on the site in my links for info on group rides and any other opportunities to meet and ride with others, and also various ways you can help change things so that finding a place to ride without being harrassed isnt a full time job.
Hope to see you around and that you get some hours on that quad
