So. Calif-Rasor Rd. Update
See the updates at www.rasorroad.com The road has been plowed. We are going out this morning to check it out, and see if it is passable for a motorhome. We will let everybody know!

So. Calif-Rasor Rd. Update
We are back from Rasor. Most of the road is marginal! There is one section (from the kiosk south for about half a mile) that I could not have done without 4wd, and almost got stuck anyway. I was driving a 4X4 Suburban with about a 4,500 lb. trailer. I did not air down my tires however, but still, NO WAY A 2WD OR MOTORHOME WILL DO IT, and especially not pulling a trailer!! I scouted a little along Basin Rd., and there isn't anywhere along there that I would care to camp. It is fairly rocky, and the riding isn't that great.
The quad riding on the other hand was fantastic! The ground was wet (no dust!), and traction was as good as you could ask for. We rode down into Afton Canyon, which had lots of water. It was one huge MUD FEST!! The kids had a great time, and I have bikes (and clothes and boots) to wash tomorrow.

One alternative on the bad section of road, might be to NOT DRIVE IN THE ROAD AT ALL, BUT ALONG SIDE OF IT IN THE WASH. The road was already very rutted by the time we were there, and the wash didn't look as bad. I did OK if I could stay out of the ruts, but once I was in them, it was like driving in deep snow. If I had aired down my tires, it would no doubt have been easier!!
I would say, drive to the kiosk, then unload the bikes and scout out the road before you procede.

After re-grading parts of Rasor Road last week we have determined it still needs work so we took off another 3 inches yesterday and will continue to remove material (sand/powder) until we reach a hard base.
Larry Blaine, Chief of Operations informed me yesterday that our objective is to ensure vehicles pulling trailers and motor homes can access the OHV Area using Rasor Road. We will continue to work hard and do whatever we can to make the road passible to all vehicles.
More updates to come.

So. Calif-Rasor Rd. Update
Went to Rasor yeaterday. It was substantially easier to get in and out than in my first post. Still needed 4wd, but absolutely no need at all to air down the tires. I think a 2wd, aired down and without a trailer, would do it. Trouble is, the sections that are sandy, are so whooped out that you can't carry any momentum through them.
Had the place mostly to ourselves!! Only one other group of campers. We have been exploring the hills more lately, and have found some nice technical (4X4) trails. Rasor, a little bit of everything!!

So. Calif-Rasor Rd. Update
I just got home from Dumont.
It was great riding weather. About 60 in the day and 50 or so at night.
Saturday there were prolly 200 motor homes there. The wind came up last night and most of them left.
We parked on the West side up on the hill. Then we dug into the hill with shovels and planted our tents. Worked out great as I have very little sand to clean out.
We did have "Sandburgers" for dinner last night though
Still kinda windy this morning and only about 40 M-Homes were there.
We got up early and were the first ones on the dunes. They were perfectly smooth.
Rode till 10a and headed home.
PS: A mojave will use 2 gallons of gas an HOUR at the dunes!

Rasor is great!! It has a little of everything. Some fair size dunes, sandy flats along the river bottom, and rocky hills. Plus, the water in Afton Canyon when you want to cool off on a hot day. Have you ever been to Rasor?? If you kept going east on the Mojave Road from Afton, you would run right into the dunes (in about 10 miles).
If your vehicle can't make it all the way in on Rasor Rd., you can camp along the first part of the road where it isn't so sandy (with a great view of the freeway!).
