Anybody waiting for snow should come up now. I rode 3N16, 3N93, 2N06, and 2N12 today. They were all covered with about 2-3 inches of virgin, semihard snow. Very nice riding conditions.

Wish I had the time for a ride! Got any pictures to post?

Where do you stage from in the snow? I presume you drove your truck down 3N16 to the staging area at the top of 2N12 or maybe Crab Flats????? What does one do when there is so much snow on 3N16 that you don't want to risk taking a truck with a heavy trailer down to the staging area?????? A trailer parked off Green Valley Lake Rd. at the top of 3N16, would probably draw some unwanted attention, because it would be obvious that you are riding down the part of 3N16 that isn't green sticker legal.

This was never a problem for me before, because before the fire I would stage from Miller Canyon (which rarely gets much snow), then I could ride up to Pinnacles and hit the heavier snow up there. Seeing we have lost so many trails to the fire, the Forest Service needs to open up some other routes, until they can reopen the old ones!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I didn't take any pics. I should have. It was absolutely beautiful out. 2N12 seemed to have the most snow. A full throttle run from the bottom was fun. 3N16 from Green Valley Lake Road was packed down nicely. No problem dragging a trailer down there. Lots of folks parked up at the top at Green Valley Lake Road, and just rode down. Going across Holcomb Creek at the beginning of 3N93 was fun. I rode atop the ice for a short ways before it broke, and down I went. I had the back out and take a shallower line. The fallen tree on 3N93 has been cut out of the way.

We're supposed to get some more weather on Tuesday. I'll keep everyone posted on the conditions.

Hi WileyCoyote,

Unrelated topic, I saw you have a KLR-650. I am looking to buy a dual-purpose bike like the DRZ400, KLR-650 or maybe something smaller. The main reason is to have the bike to go back and forth from camp to the store and once in a while to accompany the atvs out in the trail. How is your KLR out in the trails? I know it would not have a problem on forest roads but what about sand washes etc?? You think I should buy the 650 or a 250 being 50 pounds lighter??
Many many years 1975 ago I had an XL350 that was ok on the road but awful on dirt but I see the new bikes like yours have fully adjustable suspensions etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Marco Polo
