Where NOT To Ride - A sad but true story
I read this on a local news website ... I guess he never thought about the prospects of getting the ATV back after paying fines, etc ...

A Port Union man, facing the loss of his ATV, allegedly beat the machine to smithereens in front of police. The 22 year old was allegedly witnessed by the Mounties riding the machine on the road in Catalina. That's illegal, and the officers say when the man was advised his machine would be seized, he got an eight pound sledgehammer from his shed and beat the ATV into pieces.

I'll bet he destroyed it so the cops couldn't sell the "seized" property. It's highway robbery IMO, they will sell seized property before the court determines guilt or innocence and then you get to pay a lawyer to chase paper for reimbursement. I totally understand his motivation if he thought they were going to steal his quad and sell it at auction.
