Default ? for Minisota riders.

I have been thinking of riding the Soo line atv trail system this coming fall. I am hoping to be able to take 2 trips this year. One out west somewhere and one resnobly local. I have never been north of the citys before and thought it would be neat to ride up north when the trees are changing color. I have a few questions though. Are all the trails conected? On the Mn DNR website the map that they give has gaps in the trails. I would like to unlode at the bottom side and ride north till I was half way out of time then turn around and head back to the truck. Are there any towns along the trail that you can stop in to get food and gas and sleep? I see it ends up in International falls but there is a big gap from about Cass Lake to Northhome. Is there a way to conect the two. If there is can it be riden from the start at Genol to International Falls and back in a week? I am in the beginings of planing this ride and as of yet I dont have anyone willing to drive to north end and pick us up so I have to be able to do a round trip in a week. If it is not posible to do the hole thing in a week at a normal riding pace how far can I expect to get? If there are any locals that know the trail and would like to join us let me know. It would be great to have someone along that knows the way. Thanks for any info. Im sure this is just the begining of the questions.

Ya. That is anouther option. I see that the trail does conect with wisconsin trails so mayby we will just go that far north then head int wisconsin, or just skip Mn altogether and just go to wisconsin. Like I said I am just begining to lay out the trip now. I have abought 10 months to wory abought it. I realy should be more conserned with my spring trip. I havent decided between Colorado, Utah or Wyoming. Ahh somany trails so little vacation time.

a couple guys in my club have ridden the entire Soo Line from Genola to Cass Lake. Total mileage was about 400 miles. They did the whole works in a weekend. As far as connecting to the trail from Northhome to International Falls, I couldn't tell you either way.

As far as WI is conerned, they are much more friendly over there to ATV'ers than here in MN. We have some battles going on here with counties closing their ditches off due to a few rebels. Unfortunately, they aren't considering the fact if these ditches are turned into a Grant-In-Aid trails, there would be no cost to taxpayers for maintenance or repairs.

Too many people view riding as a "Right" and not a "Priveledge".

Was that 400 miles one way or round trip? Is it worth the extra distance to go to Wisconsin and forget abought Mn. Are there as many long trails systems? I have no idea and the plans are just being made so if its worth it we will go there. We thought it would be neat to see all the trees change color. So site seeing is of more concern than all out riding.

that was round trip. But personally, I would go to Wisconsin if you want to see the scenery. The Soo Line, as you may have guessed, is an old railroad bed. Flat adn straight as far as the eye can see. There are some trails off the Soo Line like Red Top and the Foxy Trail that aren't bad, but then there is also Nemadji State Forest that connects with the Wisconsin trails. That would be the more scenic trip.
