My parents moved to Bloomsdale in time for me to go to K-garten there (1979?). Didn't move away until 1997. Francis Basler, Franz, sold cars? I don't know him personally, but my dad bought a few cars from him.
There are just a few Baslers down that way I grew up in the same neighborhood as Don Basler, wife Lonnie, daughter Chris, son named Ted. Don't know if they are your relation or not.
I do like to drag race a little. We do some trail riding too, just not much of it.
I continue to meet more and more people through this site. It would be nice to have an AtvConnection day at St. Joe. How about it?!

We're from just across the river from you guys. Biggindbs and I are from the Belleville/O'Fallon IL area and make the trip to St Joe all the time in decent weather.
It would be good to have a meetup sometime.
Diggler...how does a guy get to these sandbars at St Gen? I've been looking for some around here.

Pat,
You take Hwy 61 South about 2 miles (guessing) out of Ste. Genevieve and turn left on a gravel road that crosses the RR tracks. (There will be baseball fields on the right side of the highway just past your turn off.) Down that gravel road a couple miles are some sand piles which is where we parked and unloaded. Then we rode down that county road a few more miles, cut through a field and we were there on the sand bar.
However, that county road is in my opinion risky business. The farmers down there don't seem to like atvers much since a few decided to cut up in the fields next to the sand piles and that county road can get you a ticket from what I've heard. All of my friends have been lucky or maybe they know someone.
The riding down there wasn't as good as I thought that it would be either. Had to cross a few rock piles that were tight for the old Banshee, can't imagine it with the Bom.
And I guess you could say that I do like to drag race maybe a bit more than a little.

That is pretty much the same way I got to the sandbars. My cousin lives in Ste. Gen and I followed him to the sandbars. We parked and unloaded at the Marina parking lot. We rode from the marina along some farm roads to the sand hills that Daren420 spoke of and on to the river. The rock levy was no fun to navigate, but after a couple hundred feet it was pretty much open sand. My cousin Chris (Ste. Gen Native) drove his F150 all the way to the levy. By the time we made it back to the Marina there were ten or twelve more trucks unloading bikes and some of the guys said that there are a lot more trails down there than we think, we just need to get a local to "guide" us. That was just two or three months ago, and we had no problem at all on these gravel roads. I was told that the farmers are cool as long as you stay clear of the fields. Maybe we were just lucky too but judging by the number of bikes we saw unloading, ticketing must not be too much of a problem.
Hey Daren420,
Franz is 91 now and he still sells cars. He is amazing!
I'm in for an atvconnection day at St. Joe's. Heck, I'm in for any nice day at St Joe's.

Jumpman,
I'm still trying to get a sitter for my 3yr. old. The wife is working, if grandma is available I will try to make it on the ride. Where do you guys take off from? Do you start right by those ball fields or do you go down M a little further?

We will be leaving from my house in Bayberry Farms...
There are quite a few trails between the house and the ballfields...but if you get a confirmation that you can roll, just post a message.
I'll check messages before we go & meet up with you at the ballfields @ whatever time...
