Hey, I live in Old Town now, but was living on Rt 2 in Lincoln....Used to ride in the pits across I-95 at the Lincoln exit 'till W.T. ******** shut it down. O well...there is still some nice hardpacked roads in the same spot just off from the salt shed that go all the way up to Millinocket. Right now the only pit is across the street from the K.C. hall, but the road has a gate up, but you can still get to it by going down the Station Rd ny Goding's garage.....My Gram lives right across from their plant and has a good sized field to play in. There are also a lot of trails on the power lines there, but they're pretty sh!tty for sport quads...
My older brother lives in Sanford, works at Rubb welding stuff, and says there are quite a few good spots to ride down there.....Sometime I'm gonna make a trip down and stay w/ him for a weekend....Latah..

The guy that owns a hunting camp right before the gate on the right has the combo to the lock, and he opens it and goes riding down the logging roads, leaving the gate open for others....even though he ain't supposed to. W.T. Gardener shut it down because people were dumping off old fridges and other garbage.....not because off the wheelers, really, although I think he's afraid off a lawsuit.....Every time we go the gates always shut, but there is a way in if you go down the new detour and take a left into a small pit just off the road....there's a trail right there....If you keep going down the road it comes out buy the RR tracks, and you can get over the ditch they dug to get into the pit.....If you keep going the other way, keep hanging to the left you'll come out to South Branch lake in Sebois where I have a camp.....Great place to stay to go wheelin' all around the area...
I just remembered if you take Rt116 thru Chester there is another pit on the left after the stud mill and down the hill, where there's a tiny log building....The dirt road follows huge power lines and also the pit itself is a makeshift race track to frig around on......But W.T. closed the big pit a good 2 years ago, anyway....

We've been to the other pit by the power lines, Haven't been to the first one you mentioned, Is it any good? We always used to go down that dirt road and came in to the pit from the back. Like to go up sometime for a trail ride, heard there are allot of them.

OK, you got me confused.....So you HAVEN'T been to the one by the salt shed across the Interstate. Is that right? If it is, yeah, its pretty good. Mostly the "bowl" is what gets all the attention, but a stock 400EX can climb it fairly easily.....There's a few hills, tight trails, jumps, mud holes, and you can even get onto the interstate via trail to race traffic!! Then jump the hill in the median and get on the opposite side and follow snowsled trails to Howland. And the roads to Millinocket kick a$$, but they are VERY dusty in the summer time, and are very wide and pretty darn smooth....About 3-4 years ago a bunch of us (prolly 15 quads) went up to the Marina, and everyones eyes were burning, and my friends ugly-a$$ buck-tooth girlfriend had dirt built up on the tops of her teeth....EW....Nasty....There's a couple 4-ways and Y's, and I don't remeber exactly what road goes where, but you'll end up in Sebois, Millinocket, or back in Lincoln if you get lost.....Eventually....
And, garsh darn it, I just remebered another pit in Chester. Down the Pea Ridge Road (Into Tashville, where cousins get married),It's past the power lines (Lee Emery Inc is on the corner-tons of dump trucks and construction equip) on your left, and go a couple miles down that road, there's a spot to park your trucks at those RR crossings. From there you cross a deep, fast moving stream (not bad in the summer) and follow the road to some nice quiet pits, that're mostly covered in low grass, and there's quite a few good valleys to throw down a tent and build a fire and relax, but we haven't done that yet.....
Best part is that Greg Richards ( he owns Richards Sport Shop in Lincoln) lives near by and will get you parts you need at night or on weekends, and even haul your quad out and to the shop if you wreck or break down, and pretty much help all he can to keep us having fun......
So we still have a few good places in Lincoln, but alot of people are selling their sport quads and getting 4X4's because they're just alot more useful on the many snowsled trails around. In fact, I just stripped some parts off my 87 Zilla to get my 90 running and sold the 90 to my cousin, and I plan on getting a DS, because I think it'll be more "trail-riding" friendly than the QZ. But there's still Raptors, warriors, EX's, and Z's to play with, so all hope ain't gone yet!!

Ya, we have been in the one right off I95 by the salt shed a few times, and to the one down by the little log building under the power lines. We haven't been in the one you mention across from KC hall. Do the other ones that you mention have any banks as big as the salt shed one?
We park the trucks at the Citgo right in the middle of Newport and you can ride the old rail road bed to Dover-Foxcroft, and to Greenville if you want ( long ride!! ). There is a couple ok pits on the way to Dover-Foxcroft.
