Hi Roger,

Thanks for the info. I tried to get into Intrepid Explorers but it must be quite an exclusive club as one needs to be registered to see anything and the registration is not automatic, so once I get manually approved I'll check out the site. It looks very interesting and the topics are many of my favorites. I love to use hitech to explore the past.

Just curious but how many here have Google Earth running on their PCs? I have been using it along with a few other mapping tools to assemble various maps together.

I'd be happy to share some KMZ files with the maps and coordinates. Also if you have any GPS tracks let me know as it is much more time consuming to manually extrapolate the specific routes from the materials.

I have just geo-referenced a USFS map of the riding areas in discussion. It shows virtually every road and trail along with the fs road numbers.

Don

We usually meet for breakfast in plymouth, the restaurant right across the street from the sierra trading post. Were going to meet at 800. If you want to meet in pipi, we'll launch at 9n40. This is about a mile or so past the pipi campground, just continue on up north south road, cross the cattle guard, up the hill you'll come to a crossroad, look to the right. Theres plenty of room for everybody, i drive a tan dodge pickup, red king quad. We'll be there by 10. If you come in from mormom immigrant, i don't know if you can make it that way after the snow. It's just past elkins flat area on the left, just look for 9n40. If you'rer coming from placerville take 49 to plymouth, turn left on sheandoah vallley road, the intersection where the restaurant is located, go through river pines, take right on omo ranch road. Take left on north south road, then follow directions above to 9n40.

Yeah Don, i love google earth. I just bring my gps along if i'm riding somewhere unfamiliar. I Know the pipi valley area real well, i've been hunting, cutting firewood, and riding atvs for over 20 years in the general area. Look at my page on this website for some of the pictures that i was telling you about. join intrepid explorers, a great site. I Havent't rode with them yet, can't seem to get the dates right.

another question, is there any snow up there? or where does the snow start? is there snow on any of the trail? sorry for all the questions. we are planning on meeting you regor and who ever else is going at the staging area for 9N40 just past PiPi campground, like you exsplained above. we plan to be there by 10AM. we will be in a big green chevy silverado truck with one brute in the bed and another brute on a trailer. the reason I am concerned about the snow and ice on the road going down North South to PiPi could be scary!

I imagine there is some snow around. If we can't make it down north south road, we can do trail 33 from sopiago road. I'm thinking with the warm afternoons that north south road will be clear, coming from the omo ranch side. So my suggestion is to meet at omo ranch road and north south road. Your right that can get pretty icy and slick, we'll be able to tell right away, just by the amount of snow around.

Dress warm brother, we'll be there. One thing if the snow looks heavy as your going up omo ranch, pull over at sopiago road. If i don't see you earlier. We can access the whole valley from there if we have to.
