Need info on an MN ride
#1
Well me and my dad are going to take our first trip trail riding and i was going to see if i could get some info from you guys from MN.
I live in Owatonna which is about an hour south of the cities. Whats the closest riding that would be fun for a whole weekend without spending two days driving there? Anything in MN or would i have to cross the border into WI? I know there's lot of riding way up in nothern MN but thats like a 5 hour drive isn't it?
Thanks.

I live a few hours north of you, and the only places near me are Spider Lake and St. Croix, you can camp around those areas, but they don't have a lot of miles to keep you busy all weekend. I would just jump on hwy 14 and head to WI, way more places to ride, and great camp grounds. Black River Falls is a great start, took my son there our first trip to WI, stayed near a lake, can't remember the name, great beach, you can ride from the campsite, lots of miles of trails. We go to northern Wisconsin every year for a week, the Iron River area up by Lake Superior is hard to beat for great trails and camping, it would be several hours for you, but I meet a lot of people from Illinois and Iowa there, so it must be worth the ride. Let me know if you want any more info on that area. Don't forget, Wisconsin now requires out of state quads to buy an 18 dollar trail sticker, but it is good for a year, so you can make a lot of trips for that money.

the soo line trail extends from mille lacs to duluth and there is side trails on the way....I dont know who it was but someone in the kawi forum just ventured that trail and he said is was really good...I have been on it, but just around the mille lacs area...We had a good time around that area....something worth checking out imo

Snake creek and trout valley are about the closest, check the mn dnr site for more info.
Are you looking for a challange, or an easy day ride?
Namadji, in pine county , or danbury in burnett county of wi, should be close enough for a day trip, and are smooth sandy trails.

Thanks for all the info guys. I think we'll try to hit up danbury. I'm guessing there are hotels close to the trails. Least i hope so, i hate tenting. If i lock the quads to the trailer with cables I should be safe from people ripping them off right? or is there a better way to lock them down then cable and paddlelocks?
Is there somewere right off the trails in danbury to snag the WI stickers?
I looked at a map and it looks like it's easy to get to and once i get there i'm guessing the trails aren't too hard to find.

Theres a motel, in town, at the casino. You can stay there and drive to the trail from there. And just accross hwy 35,from the casino, is a gas station that sells the atv permits, its 18 bucks. They also have trail maps.
If the motel there is full, theres another one, about 2 miles north of town, which has a trail down the ditch, to the danbury trail.
You wont have a problem finding the trail, it crosses hwy 35, about 1.5 miles north of town.
You shouldnt have a problem with using a lock and cable, WI is atv friendly.
