Default wanted: ride areas that compare to Hatfield/McCoy

We are planning our yearly trip to Hatfield/McCoy trails in West Virginia (October 14-18)
and are looking for a side trip on the way home to Florida.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and richly rewarded.

I have read many posts about some wonderful places to ride,
but I value the opinion of the natives.

We live in Florida, and everything here is flat. (Except the beach bunnies, but that’s a different post)
Mud is not a problem here, neither is swamp. We got swamp and mud just about everywhere.

We are looking for the following:
Hills, mountains and hard-packed trails - not just a single loop that goes in a circle.
Does anything compare to Hatfield/McCoy?
My buddy’s Raptor hates the mud, so he wants to avoid it if at all possible.
My snorkled Prairie 650 will go through anything.

A perfect recommendation would be like this:
Various trails that cover several mountains -
serious uphill runs followed by challenging downhill crawls -
rocky and steep are words we want.
Awesome mountain views, creek crossings, sand dunes, etc.

If you have ever been to Hatfield/McCoy, then you know what we are looking for.
Just more of it, in another location.

We are willing to trade for your information!

For the right information, we will offer the following:

Come ride with us at Hatfield/McCoy during our trip -
we have a cabin rented for the time stated and there are others available -
we will show you around and up and down 500 miles of unbelievable trails
in an ATV friendly town that allows ATV's on the streets, in the McDonald's Drive Thru -
muddy boots in the restaurants and boat loads of "yee-haws"
or
come to Florida and we will show you our favorite places -
we own permits to ride a 100,000 acre parcel which is open year round
and is ATV friendly - no rules - just riding.
We have our own cabins on a site with water and primitive facilities -
sugar sand trails, muddy trails, and high speed runs that will test your endurance and machine.
We spend weekends there when time permits - and you will have a standing invitation -

OK-I have said my story. Any ideas?

Man, the place you are looking for is HM trails. I can't think of any place other than that, that has it all like you descripbe. I guess you know they added another trail system this year. That might extend your stay. It is further south too, you could also try whitewater rafting in WV while you are at HM?

If you want to go a little bit out of your way, you could try Windrock which is in OliveSprings TN, just outside Oak Ridge TN....its probably the closest that is comparable

Any of you boys in the Carolina's or GA got anything comparable??

Great tip!
I spent over an hour reading the stories and details about Windrock and I will pass it along to my group -
I would consider that suggestion a perfect response. Thanks.

thanks Prairie650 - I got the PM and called Rodney - left message and read his posts on that other site
It sure looks like a great time and I can't wait!
Based on his stories and previous ride reports, that boy likes to put on some miles
All I can say is GiddyUp

I would say that Windrock is probably the best riding I have done. When they rate a trail difficult it is difficult. If you guys had time I would recommend riding Pickett also. It is probably a 2 hour drive from Windrock. I am sure Windrock has enough to keep you entertained for a few days. Have fun.

If you are coming to the HM, you might try out the ton of free trails south of the Wagon Wheel at Pinnacle Creek. The newest HM trail ends there. We have the stairsteps (hillclimbs), and many, many other trails around there that are free trails. Some of them are marked by colored paint, but no real signs.

Look at a map of WV, and find Bramwell in Mercer County. We usually go in from that side and ride over to the WagonWheel for lunch. If you need any more info or specific directions, send me an e-mail. Be glad to help you out.

Hope this helps
Tim
