The Kalkaska/Grayling system is nice. The trail system is called Blue Bear. There are parking lots along M-72.

I live in Royal Oak, but always looking for places to ride south of Flint. I have been to the Mounds (Mt Morris), is there anywhere else?

pol4x4,
there is NO WHERE south of Flint to LEGALLY ride your quad.Im a member of the CCC [Cycle Conservation Club] and receive a yearly book of all LEGAL trails accessable to ATVs in Michigan. It sucks, with the ever increasing sales in the ATV world, you'd think our State would make better accomadations for ATVs than we have now.How about giving us quad owners the same rights as the snowmobilers?====Bill

Chippewa County is following Luce County and opening all roads (with restrictions) for ATV use.

It won't be long and the rest of the UP will follow and it will be bigger than snowmobiling (except Marquette County which has already turned down a proposal on advice from the sheriff).

By legalizing Chippewa, this lets us get to the falls from the park side and up to Whitefish Point.

Happy riding.

have ridden to date Luther, Mio, Black Lake, Gladwin, portions of Leota & St. Helens and Atlanta. Favorites are Black Lake and Atlanta.

Questions, questions, questions?!?!? Almost went to Luce county on vacation last weekend. After reading your post I have to go now! what are the restrictions for riding on the roads? Speed, shoulder only, etc. I get so frustrated riding the ATV trails that are all whooped out from dirt bikes. We love to two track and zip around on gravel roads, but the added adrenaline rush from worrying about getting caught almost takes the fun out of it. I'd appreciate any information you can give me about riding in da UP!

Mac,
I was planning on comming, but I could not get my lazy butt out of bed early enough. Was it a good ride? Probably, thats the way things have been going lately. I have not been doing much riding lately, Have been tring to get stuff done before the white stuff comes. I'm looking forward to hunting season though, that should be fun..

I ride all over Marquette County, and have no problems what so ever. There are several townships in Marquette county that have opened up there roads to ATV traffic. Forsyth Township where I live is one of them. Went to Big Bay a few weeks ago, and they are handing out maps at Crams Store.. If you ride responsible, they will not hassle you...

i have one hundred acres in the u.p. in ontonagon county and i ride to a small city called rockland on my quad and have passed police before on the road and they have not said anything. but there are alot of trails to ride up there. i usually ride the snowmobile trails and never had a problem. the people up there are not that worried about you driving your quad. but that might just be where my cabin is and not everywhere. but it is a beautiful country to ride in i would recomend it to anyone.

The U.P. is an ATVer's Paradise but all trolls must stay below the bridge.

Thor,if a troll buys property in the UP, does that automatically make him a yooper or something more sinister like an ogre or an orc?
( Buck 619, no offense intended. Just trying to clarify my official standing if I were to own property on both sides of the bridge. You lucky dog, you...)
