Where to Ride and Help From other Groups
#1
I am not going to lie to anyone. This post will probably be long and drawn out but I think it is worth being said and I think that other people probably feel the same way.
I am an avid rider. I try to ride every weekend that I can. When I am not riding I am working on my quad or something to do with riding. I am also avidly into 4x4 trucks and Jeeps. I love seeing a jeep or truck flexed out so far that the tires are off of the ground. I love combining both activites when we can do them. I will get to the point from here.
After reading the latest issue of Four Wheeler Magazine I have come to the conclusion that we all need to quit fighting each other and start helping everybody. There was an editorial in the back about how ATVer's need to learn to ride. Most of it was common venting about decency when out on the trail. example: the person or machine going uphill ALWAYS has the right of way, or when riding with a bunch of people no one gets off the side of the trail to let others past. This kinda made me mad and I was going to write an editorial to Four Wheeler, but I decided that it was not right to condone this message. The guy was right, some people don't have the common decency to follow simple trail rules. I am not saying that truck guys are perfect but if everyone would follow the same rules the bias opinion against trucks vs. atvs and vice versa would start to dwindle.
The article went on to say that everyone needs to work together to ensure that everyone has a place to ride. I go to jeep forums and they down talk atv riders. What they should be doing is helping us get riding land, that way when they have a wheeling place shut down or threatened all offroaders can join force and fight the tree huggers. this is the exact message that the Blue Ribbon Coalitin and the NOHVCC has been trying to get across for a long time.
One of my main reasons of riding this is the Bauer's Pit Post. I applaud all that are trying to keep that riding area open. All I can say to those people fighting to keep it open is don't give up and try to get your fellow offroaders in your area to help pitch in to help. Don't just rely on atvs and dirtbikes, focus on jeeps and trucks too. If enough people are involved someone will listen.
I too have seen riding areas close, Livingston, KY is a prime example.
How many people on this board use to go there. Have you been there lately. I am amazed that the gas station and truck stop are even open. That place is deserted without offroaders there to keep business booming.
In conclusion,
If we all work together and stop bashing each other(jeeps vs. atv's, atv's vs. jeeps) we can work as a unified group to help protect all of our riding and wheeling areas.
thanks you for tletting me express my opinion and I look forward to a lot of reading on this topic.

Very well said. I too am an avid Jeep/ATV freak, and have been on both sides of the debate. You said it best, Common decency, or the lack there of, is the problem. Our riding group is facing many of the same problems with riding areas, and yes they are closing down by the day. The only thing we can do is start to show respect for our riding areas, other riders(ATV/4x4), and property owners, as well as putting our best effort into keeping our riding areas open not only for us but for our future generations.

I am glad someone replied, I wrote that post thinking that at least people would read it and respond with their opinion. We offroaders are a team and if we cooperate as a team eveyone can have their share of the offroad world
