Adirondack,
Chanticlair is about 8 miles from my house. I golf there once in a while for fun ( I am not a frequent golfer. I bought a set of clubs there for 100 bucks. ) Small world. My Dad lives un Port Jervis, NY. Is there good riding by you?

Ketchikanman,

There are quite a few good trails up here. You can literally ride for hours. However, none of them are legal, in the two counties I am closest to. Nonetheless, as long as your quad is registered, and you have insurance, and wear a helmet, no one hassles you. Also, I am only 40 minutes from the Canadian border, and there are hundreds (in the winter 1000's) of miles of legal atv trails. The only problem I have is getting a free weekend to ride..... :-(

Adirondack
I know the owner of Chanticlair, David Stollman. Not well, I haven't been golfing in a while.
I did some work up near Canada. Masseena I think. I have to work in Plattsburg this week as well.
Wish I could bring my quad with me.
Canada must have some great trails! I used to live in Alaska. There are some great trails up there.
Take care .

Adirondack, there was a parking lot down at the road where you can park...we were a bit nervous to leave the truck there but they assured us that in such a small town everyone sees everything and it turned out fine... I think the trail sysyem we camped off of was Bear Wallow...it was fairly new last year. we also drove out to 3 other trail systems..none of them were more than 30 minutes away. it was such a great time! and ur right about Wolcott, right down the street from Waterbury

For those that are interested in staying somewhere at H/m - you can stay in the towns and ride to the trails legally on the streets (Man, Gilbert, Matewan and Delbarton) For the price of one of the cabins at Devil Anse, you can pay a little more and have a bathroom, shower, kitechen and all the comforts of home. The duplex we usually stay at is $60.00 a night and will sleep 6 easy. If you split it 6 ways, it's only $10. bucks a person per night. The motels are really resonable too. If I remember right, $35 - $45. per room. We have a lot of folks that go down there on our site (www.quadcrew.com) We personally go down about 6 times a year (at least!) Awesome trails, and it's very cool riding through town, you really never have to use your vehicle once you unload if you stay in one of the towns I mentioned above.

Quadcrew,

Thanks for the info. I am planning on booking a room at the Colonial, in Man. A couple of the guys, I am going down with, are planning on camping in tents. I told them that I'll take a bed, over a sleeping bag, any day of the week. Camping was cool when I was a teenager, and even in my 20's, but at 42 I feel that a couple of extra $$ are worth it to be more comfortable.

Adironback,
Just got back from Plattsburgh a little while ago. That was a rough 300 plus miles afetr working all night.
Too bad I did not know you worked there. Next time I get up that way I will let you know.
When are you going to Hatfield-McCoy?
Safe Riding, Ray.

Bruteforce,

Ketchicanman was referring to the drive from Plattsburgh, NY to Colchester, CT, in a car, not his atv. We are not lucky enough to have over 500 miles of actual ATV trails, like the H-M trails!

Ketchicanman,
I am going to the H-M trails the week of 5/22. Hope to ride 5 days and cannot wait. I am going w/ my brother-in-law, who lives in RI.
