Oregon Dunefest Riders Meet Here
#1
Check in here if you are coming to Oregon Dunefest (Click Here) in 2005. This year sounds better than the last few years with a MX track on the agenda, in addition to the sand drag racing.
The exhibitor area is being moved closer to the action and there are revisions being discussed about the PROHIBITION of alcoholic beverages at the event. Behind the scenes are alot of talks about how to make the DUNEFEST event better and more enjoyable.
It is no surprise, (to the Chamber Of Commerce members), that the attendees of the event are dis-satisfied with the event, (the last 2 year's past, 2003 and 2004), as the participation and the attendance of vendors has diminished. I hope that showing this strand to the commerce can provide some insight to make the event more enjoyable for all.
Please keep the comments realistic, supportive and positive. Tell what you like and what you dont like. And leave a suggestion on how to make resolution for the matter, but be realistic about your expectations.
Most of all, lets talk about meeting there and having a blast together and sharing what we all enjoy in the sand! ROOST!
Having some big sponsors willing to come on to support this event like albaaction.com
and
www.fullboreinnovations.com
is a great sign that the DUNEFEST event is capable of being the event in Oregon that we want it to be.
Dirtwheels Magazine is also doing a full article on this year's event, so look for that secretive camera and show it what ya got if you know what he looks like.
Hope to see you there and lots of positive comments on this strand.
Ride on!

A few things I found out about the event this year. Alcoholic beverages are only allowed inside "established" camping areas. None of the camping areas at Winchester are "established" . Sand camping is not considered established. So, if they revert back to USFS rules, then there will still be a prohibition, so to say. Hmmmm. Just thought I would add that thought, to be clear about their proposal.
Ill still have a good time anyways.

Bear the big question for me is will my motor home or trailer be searched this year to camp in the sand. I have supported them from day one and have had friends from around the country and all the way from La. come up to join in the party with me the last few years. The video of your oops was from a relative from the south. With that said, I will not go this year if they plan to search my vehicles again!!!!!!!!! end of story. Mark my word this is there last chance to bring the people back, if it dont change they will not come. JMO

My son and I will be down attending the festivities for the first time this year... Alcohol isn't a big issue for me, but I would like to camp where I can unwind and the gestoppo isn't hovering over us.
I would be very dissappointed and would consider not attending if I had to spend time to have my motorhome searched for any reason, wheather I have alcohol in there or not.
I'm looking forward to seeing what it's all about and getting into the racing scene a little.

While I think it's great Oregon can have an event like this I am I not surprised at the diminishing attendance.
I went a few years ago and couldn't find parking so I parked in the sand and was promptly nailed for not having offroad tags and a flag. Never mind that this I was in an organized group of vehicles in what was really an extension off the parking lot into the sand. These were just people who needed to park but the parking was extremely inadequate.Only 25% of the rigs there were so equipped but I got caught. I found another parking spot off the main road to the parking lot and was walking to meet the friend I had dropped off when a USFS yoyo pulled up next to my and the other rigs parked there. I decided to check it out and walked over to talk to him but he wouldn't TALK to me or make any EYE contact. He got on his radio and was begging somebody to let him put up a sign declaring a no parking zone where pepole had obviously parked for years. His radio counterpart stated this but he kept on. He finally got out of his truck and started writing tickets while still ignoring me. When I got him to talk he went off on me so I grabbed my video camera at which point he tried to become marginally professional. Let's just say I've got no sympathy when I hear about these guys getting shot.
I couldn't find out much info on events, I found a poker run after it had ended, never saw the motocross track and the vendors row was miles away and on pavement, also with minimal parking.
The next year it I heard it rained so people pulled in and sat in their trailers and motorhomes only to have the cops sound testing bikes that were still loaded.
It's a dragstrip and a weekend party, but apparently they are attempting to kill that as well.
Hey, I forgot, I take it all back, every Oregon duner ought to attend I volunteer to keep an eye on the rest of the coast that weekend.
