How fast do you go? My wife and I are ATV newbies but we did do the 12 mile loop at the Cove a few weeks ago. I had to get her ATV up the 2 biggest hills but other than that she did fine. How is Tasker's and is it better or the same as Pete's Mill across the road? I've mtn biked Pete's Mill before.

Taskers Gap can be "Rough as Hell" to quote from one sign on the Taskers run trail. Erosion has taken most of the soft top soil from the surface of that prehistoric bedrock. Flintstone type rocks line many of the trails.
Top speed on many trails tops out around 40 MPH, and that would be riding by the seat of your pants at best. I usually average roughly 25 MPH throughout a full day of riding.
The western side of Taskers can be a great outing if you like to play in the rough, but if you like it soft and undemanding then I would suggest staying on the lower north eastern side of the trail system. There is a nice system of intertwined trails, mostly dirt or dirt/ rock combo that almost anyone would enjoy no matter their skill level. Ride em as hard or soft as you want.
A word of caution to people that may want to traverse the Taskers Run Trail. If you do not like rock crawling, or if you do not have four wheel drive, it may be best to steer clear from that corridor altogether. The middle section is not the most quad friendly trail I have ever been on.

Peters Mill has been closed for a while and it should be open up by now. But its wise to call the rangers office and ask, the enitial trail close was far extented from original. Also they closed the rough Endinburg Gap trail which I hope is open by now.
Only did about 1/3 of Peters Mill side to the pond and it seemed to mirror Taskers pretty much, low speed tight trails medium rough rock. Most of my speed was clocking 17 mph hanging on those tight trails. The ORV wide trail is good to let her open up but be carefull you'll unexpectly come up on rock dont get thrown. Theres a creek crossing or two and at least one memorable short steep hill transversed tight turn. Its got alot plus a great occational moutain view. I'm hoping to check out Cove soon so I cant speek from experience but the guys at the Cove told me that the Cove is not as rocky as Taskers Run.
The big difference between Taskers Run and most other areas are Taskers has no dirrectional trails so any can go either way so beware! The good side to that is each trail is different in the other dirrection. Another word of warning I can think of is Tasker Run side is mainly devided into to main areas, a nothern system and southern system. The only two short-cut connecting trails betweem the north and south are both very heavy bolder runs up and down over the moutain. Other wise you have to take the long routes back, keep that in mind with your trail time and gas. I hope that I've been helpful.
I could pretty much answer your question that we both ride hard and fast, Vak is a little crazier and faster than me. We've had slower bikes ride with us before and still had a great time. I'm open saturday and sunday and its going to be great weather maybe I'll ride Taskers Satuday and Cove Sunday or Samoking Saturday and Taskers Sunday.
Can I ask are you interested in early trip up to Samokin and late return, it would be the most fun you'll ever have? Its worth it.

I've been trying to find out about Allaganey Lodge for a while but never seem to get to talk with the lady who organizes rides out at their place. The brief time I did get to talk with her she said she hadn't been on the trails in a long time and they'r a junle unridable. Also that there were two spots you had to trailer to get there. Aparently its not right from the hotel.
If anyones been there how long ago, whats the riding like and how long are the trails they got?
Thanks

Greg sounds good. I'm up for the Cove or Taskers Sunday. I'm assumming since you live right near there you have been to the Cove. Which do you like better?
Btw , have they got all the trails open at Taskers/Peter's Mill? I forgot to call the rangers station and ask.
Also have you heard about the freak in the ski mask and all black close out there? Yes I'm serious. If not we better talk, we were back at the parking for lunch when the two eye witnesses/ victoms dirk bike riders approched our gorup seriously freaked out. Many of us saw the freak in his Volvo and surrounded him trying to leave, someone leaned in his car and took his picture. By personal recommendation is first checking to whole parking lot for a slightly older Volvo that had a sticker of a hand in the rear window. Cant remember if it was white, light silver blue or black now. The others called the rangers and they have ran into that freak before, he is a repeat offender! It sounds like a matter of time before this freak's mental illness progresses into killing someone.
