Has anyone else discovered the Inyo National Forest, on the eastern side of the Sierra? There are litteraly hundreds of miles of roads which are open to ATV's. We did a ride to Coyote Flats, above Bishop a few weeks ago. Elevation is ~10,000ft, and the scenery was incredible. The rules are simple, just stay on the roads. All roads are OPEN unless otherwise posted. This is refreshing compared to my local mountains (San Bernardino National Forest) where all roads are CLOSED unless otherwise posted.

Thanks for posting. I'll check out my topo maps. As much as I like riding the big bear area, it is a pain for greensticker vehicles. Is it all fireroads or are their challenging single-tracks?

Hey mtngoat, have you guys gotten any snow? My girlfriend lives in Yucaipa (~4,000 ft), and the peaks behind her house had snow yesterday. I haven't found any single track in Inyo to speak of (some of the fire roads are challenging enough). They have a web site www.r5.pswfs.gov/inyo/. The bookstore has maps you can get by mail order, and there are some maps in the web site. Inyo also has open camping, so we are going to start quad camping next season. What and where do you ride?

YZ,
Got about an inch, but it's melted. Mostly, I ride my XR400 on some pretty challenging single-track (3n93,3n34,3n10 are my favorites). I like exploring the mines and other areas on my quad (2000 quadmaster). It's a little heavy to do much sport riding
