Default ride in the mountains

Took a trip to the high sierra wed., and thurs last week. Five of us ran the strawberry trail that runs from hwy50 to hwy88. We came out above caples lake, what views, and a few rockpiles to climb. That was on wed., thurs we ran squaw ridge. This trail tops out at over 8000ft of elevation. Big green meadows, wildflowers everywhere, alpine lakes. This trail is the border to the mokelumne wilderness. This trial has a few rockpiles, but is a pleasure to ride. Your on top of the world, at least it feels that way. I wanted to stop every few minutes and take pictures.

I know just what you mean! We ride the eastern Sierra, and the White and Inyo Mtns. The Mammoth, Bishop, Lone Pine, Kennedy Meadows areas. Next year we are going to start going further north, into the Tahoe area.

I think there are two Kennedy Meadows. This one is near Kernville/Lake Isabella.

And, we have lots of excellent riding in the local San Bernardino Mtns.!

You know i rode with 5 friends on the last trip, and none of us experienced any problems with the altitude. All of the bikes ran great.

Regor, sounds like a great trip How many miles was it?

I have hunted and ridden up off of Hwy 108/Sonora. Need to do more to get to know the area better.

Great and awesome are two different things! The mods are simple, cheap, and effective. It's a no brainer for me.

How high did you get on your ride? All the stuff in the eastern Seirra is over 10,000'. At that altitude, if I don't make any adjustments, anytime you let off the throtle the engine is likely to just die.

Both rides were about 25 miles round trip, there were a few side trails that we could have done. The squaw ridge trail is my favorite, thats right behind bear river resort. You can camp there and ride your quads right out of the campground to the squaw ridge trail. You're going to need 4x4 to do some of the rockpiles. The strawberry trail, you can access from 88 side or the 50 side. We came from the 50 side, its off of 42 mile tract, then 11n19, to a left on 10n13. This brings you up on top of hwy 88, above caples lake. There's a cal trans maint. station there. This trail has a couple of spots that you need 4x4. It's a beautiful ride. We were above 8000 ft of elevation on parts of both trials, we found snow on the squaw ridge trail. Heres a link to http://www.bearriverlake.com/ This is a great place to camp and ride. If you take the road that goes around behind the campground you can get across hwy 88 to access even more trails.

So, I take it, a 4x4 quad is a necessity for these trails? Anyway around the areas where you need 4wheel drive?
