Rubicon Trail in California

I have very little ATV experience but may soon buy one for surveying work in the mountains.
While I don't expect to have to run this type of terrain, I've seen ATV's on the Rubicon Trail, which is a damn gnarly trail.
What type or brand or model of ATV would be best suited for this type of terrain? Would a larger IRS rig like a AC 400 or a smaller rig like a Rancher 350 be more suited for rock crawling? I only mention these models because they are the only ones I've looked at to date. I'm leaning towards the Rancher.
