Default where to stay in Florence?

hey i'm headed down next month and want to line up some accomidations. i would prefer a cabin on the beach. I have found a place at Discovery Point where you can ride your quad from your cabin and a Yurt at Honeyman at H-loop. My question is are there any other places to stay? I prefer Something with a roof. No tent camping. I'm not really hot on staying in a Yurt.

Discovery is at the Winchester dunes. The yurts at Honeyman are really nice, heaters in them and power. You can only ride from Honey to dunes until the end of April.
You can also check out KOA at Hauser and the Coos Bay dunes, they rent small cabins.
That's about your only options.

I have never been down there. Florence and Coos bay are sepatred by a river; Correct?

Also, Which dunes are better? The southern ones or the northern dunes?

There are three separate riding areas on the Oregon dunes. The northern most are the Florence dunes. About 5 miles from end to end and about 2 1/2 miles from beach to trees.

About 15 miles south are the Winchester Dunes. This is the smallest dune area but has the tallest dunes.

Another 15 miles south are the Coos Bay dunes. These dunes cover the largest area. About 10-12 miles end to end with lots of variety.

Asking which ones are the best is an open ended question. Everyone has there favorites and they all vary. It really depends on what you want to do. You can ride to and on the beach at Coos Bay and Glorence but not at Winchester. Lots of trail at both Florence and Coos and wide open dune fields at Florence. As I said, Winchester had the tallest dunes of the three areas.

thank you very, much you have answered all my questions...

if you were going down for first time, where would you stay? I will probably taking the Family and the wife requires showers. I don't know if yurts will be ok for her. Last time we went to Sand Lakes and stayed in Netarts and shuttled the quads in. I would prefer to stay closer to the site. I have found cabins at winchester but feel Florence or Coos Bay may be better for the Wife and kid as they are not into steep dunes..............

Try the KOA at Hauser. The access to the dunes brings you in to a real flat area and is very accessable to a lot of different terrain and trails.
Your only other option would be a Yurt at Florence.
If you plan on being there for more than a couple days, put your quads on a trailer and go check out Winchester, it's only about a twenty minutes drive from both Coos and Florence and well worth a few ours of sand flinging.
Where ever you go you won't be disappointed.
Also check out in this section, the Puget Sound/Seattle area riders thread. Lots of great people to ride with and get information from.
