Check out Cape Lookout National Seashore. A few years ago, I came down and stayed on the island with my wife and my old polaris sport 400. You can take a ferry from Davis. It's a privately owned one so it'll cost you + your quad and they have cabins on the island or you can camp on the beach. Check out drumwagon.com and look for the link to Alger Willis Fish Camp. Capn Willis lost his license a few years ago,(Something having to do with prescription drugs and him running aground) but I believe the ferry is still run by Morris Marina. Anyway, check it out, where we stayed it was about 12 miles to each end of the island North and south. It was really nice being able to ride down the beach WOT without seeing another soul for up to 45 min at a time. When we were there, we were down at the lighthouse on the third day and there was another guy down there with a Scrambler 500, he said he took a day trip over from Harkers Island. I think it was the Sand Dollar Ferry. Check those out.
