What Kind of Violation is it?
#1
A California Question:
This weekend a buddy and me did a lot of riding on "roads" that were open only to "Street Licensed Vehicles". Silly, since some of these "roads" couldn't even be traversed using anything less than a Wrangler with huge suspension mods and lockers.
My question is this, if you come across a Forest Ranger, what is the violation he/she will dish out?
Is it a full-on moving violation that goes on your driver's license record like speeding in a car?
Something that can be removed by traffic school?
Is it just a fine for not having the proper equipment? How much?
What has been people's experience? Everyone I've spoken with that has come across one has gotten off with a warning, as long as they didn't cop an attitude.
Thanks.

It's really going to vary from a warning to a fine to possible impoundment of your quad - all depending on where you are riding, what exactly you were doing while riding and even the mood of the officer who catches you.
I know that this is not a 'California answer' but your best bet is a quick phone call to find out exactly what they consider to be a street licensed vehicle.

Well, I know that my Rhino is a "Green Sticker Vehicle" that is to say not street legal.
So I'm really looking for someone who knows for certain what can happen. I'm not the type to become confrontational, and I'm not riding a souped up racing quad doing donuts in a field of endangered daisies either.
My assumption is that I'd get a warning of some sort, but I'd like to know what the law allows.

"Hello, US Forest Service?"
"Yes"
"I'm a regular violator of your rules regarding driving off road only green sticker vehicles on your roads listed as street legal only, can you tell me what would happen to me if I got caught?"
"Sure, we'd pop a cap in your a$$, this is LA you know."
"Thank you ma'am."
"No problem, we live to serve."

Saw your picutres from this weekend........great scenery! Why can't a Rhino be street licensed in CA, just like a golf cart????
Playing dumb has always worked for me! Only got caught once, when I was 12 years old. Got a ticket and my parents had to go to court with me. The fact that nobody knows, indicates that getting caught is a pretty rare occurance.

I think it's the tires, mainly.
It would need blinkers, a mirror, all sorts of stuff. And golf carts aren't legal anywhere except Avalon on Catalina Island, from what I've heard.
There are states that allow it on minor streets (Arizona, Montana) but California? No way!

Arizona..I think dune buggys are legal....means if you have a fender bender just take off the fender...still legal ...at least when I was there that explained all the cars with no hoods, fenders, etc....
also no speed limit in some parts ...
storytime my cousin was on a katania going about 100mph when he noticed a bunch of cop cars gaining on him...they passed him and another car...formed a road block and they waved him on...he move on and they onloaded a hail on gunfire on the car behing him...

I have an elderly neighbor, who drives a PLATED golf cart (slowly) all over the place! Ask Paul about it. He should be familiar with the vehicle code.
In the San Bernardino Mtns., there is only one enforcement ranger (who has a ticket book). I guess any ranger could pull you over for a talk, but only he could wright you a ticket. What are your chances of meeting this one guy in that huge area? Not very likely.
