MojaveMark, What was the reason for closing the North side at Deepwater?
That sucks because there was not a lot of area to ride there even when the North side was open. I hope they open up some more on the South side.

They werent gonna close it till after Jan. of 07, the reasons being were to many injuries and people ridding in off limit areas. The Core has not given any offical reson for the early closing, but I know for a fact that in April and May 3 people had to have LIFE FLIGHT come in, one of them died, not rumor but fact. { I was there for one of the life flight landings, it wasnt good} I hope to find out more at our next meeting.
As far as opening up more on the south side they did. It is about the same in area, but most people wont realize it because everone rode there any way. If you look at the map on the message board in the parkin lot you will see the area by the drag strip was supposed to be off limits. Thats the word I have gotten form our club officers. Thanks for askining and givving me a chance to explain.
Sportsman600, I'm not trying to steal the thread, if you want to go to Fingers lake Pm me or something, I'd love to try out my skid plates. That really goes for anyone!

If you are into technical riding that is just a bit more extreme than Deep Creek, then Finger Lakes is your place. I live very close to Finger Lakes and the place is a technical riders play pen! That said:
If you like tight trails with very little room for error,
if you like extreme angles of descent/ascent,
if you don't mind really stinky 'atomic' mud that has water been sitting stagnant for who knows how long,
if you like riding and maybe not seeing the same area every time,
if you have 2*4 or a 4*4 and know how to use it...
Finger lakes it for you.
If you don't like deep ruts full of stink or empty,
if you don't like riding trails that are tight and a tree/rock might impact you/ATV in some manner,
if you only have a sport bike and get bored with a big nice MX track,
if you don't were a helmet,
if you are looking for wide open places to open your ATV up and drag...
Then Finger Lakes ain't for you.

(all words above are Steve's opion and may not be of 100% fact (for you), use at your own risk. Beavers may bite. Don't eat . . .) :-O

MojaveMark, your fine. I am interested in the Group that is working for Deepwater. Keep us Posted or just email me with meetings or work days, no Promises, I work alot of weekends and it is hard for me to get out to Finger for work days and may be just as hard to get to DW, but will do what I can.
Finger lakes has a group that is trying to work with the park and get some changes made, but the park is being difficult. No one at the park seems to care other than the lady in the booth who is in charge. She is not well liked by other state park employees and they do not do much to help her.
read more here or join up and help when you can. http://floramo.proboards58.com/index.cgi
fingers can be awesome, just like DW if we can get people to help.

Thanks Sportsman6004X4, its nice to hear that once in a while. lol.
At deepwater we are real lucky, the parks people, the core of engineers, and even the county sherrif department seems to be on our side.
Our next meeting is August 12, at 10:00 AM in the parking lot. I know what you mean about workin weekends and finding time to do stuff like that. I wound up haveing to give up a few of my other hobbies to find the time to make the commitment to the Mudslingers. Its a lot harder to give up work though. PM me if you can schedule a some time to ride if you want, at either place.

On another note, I am going to try and make it to your next meeting. How many people usually show up? Is this just a meeting or a workday too?

No Bigmo, your not being a jerk, your are correcting my poor spelling, thank you. I mean it.
Our next meeting is August 12th, 10:00 AM, in the parking lot. Look for our sign. There is usally a newer Dodge short bed with a white enclosed trailer and a old 85 black dodge with an open 12 foot trailer. There is about 15 to 20 that show up. We are a relativly new club. We useally park on the norht side of the lot. As far as I know this is not a work day. I hope you can make it.
Who needs spell check, I have Bigmo2u! lol
