Default Little Sahara OK camping question

From what I can tell, there are several camp grounds there, 1 Private (Little Sahara Powersports owned) and the rest are State Park campgrounds. It looks like I can reserve ahead of time online for Little Sahara powersports, but not the state owned ones. Are the state owned one's all first come/first serve ? 1 any better than the other? I am looking at late March 2007 over my sons spring break. Thank you in advance for your help.

The state owned sites are first come first served. On a busy weekend they fill up fast. You can reserve a site at powersports.com or you can also reserve a site at Sandrat Haven at (580)515-8726.Ive stayed at the rats before, they run a pretty clean tight ship there.Have fun

Why camp when you can rent a house for a couple hundred bucks for the weekend and get away from all the noise. At the campgrounds you'll have some twit running a loud piped quad all night long.

I have been to Waynoka for the last seven spring breaks (made about 30 trips all together) and have never had a problem finding a place... If you get there early in the week (Monday or Tuesday) the crowds are pretty small and spots are available... If you wait untill Thursday or Friday, there may be little to choose from...

My personal favorite place to stay is in Cowboy Camp. It is a later addition to the North Campground and is only open certain times of the year (check with the park dept). It is closer to the big dunes and therefore draws mostly buggies, an older crowd and is much quieter... Hopefully, I'll be there again this coming Spring Break!

I highly recommend Cowboy Camp or staying in one of the local motels...

Thanks for the information, I was going to camp because we have our toyhauler. Sounds like maybe Cowboy is the way to go. We are going to arrive on a Tuesday probably and only stay for 3 nights.

I'd certainly check into it... If your toy-hauler is pretty big I'd either stay at the North Campground or Cowboy... Several friends I go with all have trailers in the 36-53-foot range and have real trouble parking at the south entrance... One who just bought a new 48-foot model can pull completley into a center slot at Cowboy Camp (no-backing in or out) and still have room for his 10-foot rear ramp door...

My trailer is only 30 foot, but it sounds like those northern campgrounds are quiet, which I would prefer. Thanx for the info. How has the weather been the last couple of years over spring break?

Spring break weather can be tricky... Some years it has been in the 60's and pleasant, last year we got caught in a snowstorm coming home... I've been at Sahara in weather ranging from 10 to 110 degrees... The cold is easier to deal with...

The noise level at the north campground is very low compared to the south... The only thing I ever hear is the sound of a VW screaming it's way up the bigger dunes... I consider it a special "vacation-only" wake-up call...

Yeah, we were there in September for one of the fests and it was miserable. If it's 95 degrees its too hot for me out on the dunes. In fact, we ended up driving over to Alva and shopping at Walmart just to hide from the heat. Our trailer AC wouldn't keep up with the heat.

And since I'm a whiner....we went to the fest right after Easter and the wind was so bad you couldn't stand to be outside.
