Overall, I find it pretty rocky. Not my favorite place, so I don't go there to often. But, it's close so at least you don't have to drive for 2 hrs.

Some good riding. Lot's of trails that don't have rocks. You have trails, hills, sand washes , dry lakes, mines.. a lot to choose from. The area is huge and there is something for everyone. Enjoy, and be safe.

You need to hit up Johnson Valley. It is near there, but way bigger and they have some dunes!

I like Johnson even less than Stoddard.....it's all whooped out.

Drive further out and try Rasor/Afton Canyon sometime!

Nooooooo Wayyyyyyyyyy!!!!!

I just came back on Sunday from Ocotillo Wells, and let me tell you that place is Awsome!!!! Perfect for the whole family it has a little of everything. It is well worth the drive. It is going to be hard to find anything as sweet as Ocotillo, I ve been to el mirage and did not really like it there. I have never been to stoddard or johnson so cant really comment on them. But we all loved Ocotillo Wells!!!!! Highly Recomend it!!

For the most part Ocotillo is sandy, not rocky! Perfect quad riding. I certainly prefer it to absolutely any place in the high desert, with the exception of Rasor/Afton......

15 north pass victorville,,, Exit is (bell mountain, stoddard wells rd., exit 157, all on the same sign). At exit make a left, away from freeway. Drive about 3 miles, and make a stop at dale evans rd. Continue straight and road turns into a dirt road. Continue ahead and you'll see open areas on both sides where people are camped at. All the riding can be done about 1 mile out passed the Grange Circuit Raceway sign. Have fun and good luck.
