I'm getting ready to take my first trip to Florence with my family. I was wondering if you could give a little advice about were to go / park. Also are there any specific places at Florence that are better for kids? One last question, any recommendation on hotels?

Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure if you have directions or know where to go, but the north end of the dunes is most popular and has the best parking. South out of Florence, across the bridge. At the top of the first hill (while S on 101), take a right onto South Jetty Road. Go through the toll station, past the first parkinglot/ staging area and continue to the second.

Not sure when you are going, but we are headed there tomorrow for the first trip this season. If you want to ride and not spectate, go the the second (lower) parking lot. From this parking lot, if you take the trail/road that heads west along side the road you drove in- it leads to the beach which is nice and open. If you take the trail/exit out the south side of the parking lot, head south and it wil open up into a nice riding area. The further you ride south, the more there is to see (6100 acres). In and/or when you get out into the main dunes, there are ways to get the kids around every large dune.

Have fun and enjoy.

last Sat we drove over to ride with some friends who were camping at Honeyman for the first trip of the season. Once we got there, I went out with the guys for about an hour. The wife then went out (while I watched our newborn) with the group. When she returned about 90 minutes later it started raining and never stopped.

Sucks to drive 90 miles (on-way) for 60 minutes of riding, so I know what your talking about. . . .
