MN places to ride with the kids???
#1
So we have had the Suzi 80 for a few months and my oldest (5) is already bored with riding in the circle track in the back yard (grass is long gone & ruts are growing!!!). Obviously I'd love a couple acre yard to ride on, just not sure if that is in the cards or not. Anyone know of areas around the twin cities where we can ride??? I am getting to know the trails out there for the big kids, but nothing under 10 if I am understanding right.

There is the St. Criox trails north of the Twin Cities , ties into the Gandy Dancer trail, I haven't been there for a few years, but it can be a little rough and muddy depending on weather, but it is a nice area. There is the Moose Walk trail north of Two Harbors, been snowmobiling there, never ATV rode it , though. To be honest, if you want a real nice area to ride, great camping, or even stay in a motel and ride, Iron River, Wisconsin, is hard to beat. I took my son when he was little ,riding his LT80, and kept going for several years, literally hundreds of miles of trails, and you have full access to the snowmobile corrider trail that runs along highway 2. We haven't gone the last couple of years because my son is 17, and is more interested in dunes, so we went to Silver Lake, instead, but we went there for 7 years in a row,and always had a good time, great trails, lots of side trails to explore, trail access from hotels in town,or the campgrounds, so once you park, you don't have to trailer them until you leave. You just need to buy the WI trail access stickers ( 18 bucks apiece ) but then you are good for a year. I wish MN had trails that good.

Thanks for the response. I have been up to Gandy and over to Danbury but being only 5 they are a little more than what he is up to yet. Probably in a year or so. Does the DNR get all over you for younger kids on the trails, I know they say nothing under 10 but do they hassle ya for it? Not like they can check his DL for DOB...
I was actually thinking of running down to TriCounty this weekend to check it out, especially if it does snow. Picking up the seat this afternoon so the boys can ride with me one at a time, but I really want to find a good area not in the back yard where my boys can get some experience. Got the house on the market and looking at places on the north side of the cities with acres to ride at home on... We'll see how that works out.
Thanks!!

Here's some pictures and description of Tri-County ATV Park, between Northfield and Faribault... It's open year round...

Let me know if you have any questions about the area... I used to ride there a lot.

It should be fine for kids ... certainly a change of scenery from your backyard!
The owner requires at minimum a helmet for all riders. There is something there for almost every skill level. There are 3 "pits" that can all be easily accessed by your 5 year old. Lots of flat to slightly graded areas. There are also some steep hills to climb which would probably be too much for your boys. Check out the pictures on that site...
