Default desert riding needed

Looking for some experienced desert riders with advice to a first timer. My Raptor is bored out to 686cc with tons of mods. I have lots of experience on trails and track. I will be visiting family in Southern Cali next year sometime and wish to participate in some desert races while there. What do you recommend. Any advise is welcome.

See the AMA District 37 and 38 web sites.

D37 is high desert, north of the mountain ranges around the LA basin. D38 is low desert, east of the San Diego area.

Tons of great recreational riding areas (Glamis, Ocotillo Wells, Dumont, Rasor, Stoddard, Calif. City, etc.), for when you are not racing.

Do not come here in the summer!!! The deserts are well over 100 degrees every day...people who go riding never come back! The only places to ride in summer are the mountains and Pismo.

Ocotillo and Glamis were over 100 degrees last weekend. My buddies who went out this weekend, regretted it....yet today it is snowing in the mountains, go figure????
