Best place to ATV in Colorado?
#1
I was wondering where the best place for 4 guys to ATV and stay at a Cabin is? What we would like is a nice small cabin that we can drive our atvs from and straight to the trails (if possible) We also are looking for all kinds of trails from easy to expert. Last year we stayed in Almont and ATVed in the Taylor park area, going to tincup and over napolean pass which was fun. Is there any place better than taylor park, or is that as good as it gets? Also what are some good Cabins near Taylor park to stay at?

I've been to the Silverton/Telluride area numerous times and that always is a blast. There are several passes and several hundred miles of trails. There are cabins all over the place down there, even trailside. Just check out the Silverton or Telluride visitors websites. They list all the passes on there.

Go to www.sheriffsjc.com. Click on ATV Regulations and Map on the left hand side. Then click on the Alpine Loop brochure that will come up on the left hand side. This brochure/map gives you the "MARKED" trails. There are several hundred miles of trails out there but they are not listed. The trails indicated on the map are a good weeks ride. Some are very easy and some are very difficult. There are trails where you will climb from 8000ft to 14000 ft. Which is where you get into God's country. Then there are Descent's from 14000ft to 8000ft. There are amazing views and so much history to see. You'll see alot of old mines, ghost towns, and natural lakes. I'm actually making the trip down there all the way from Sioux Falls, SD this September. Here's a list of the passes for you, so you can check them out too.
Black Bear Pass
Imogene Pass
Engineer Pass
Alpine Loop
Yanky Boy Basin
Ophir Pass
Cinnamon Pass
PoughKeepsie Gulch
California Gulch
Kimball Mtn. Trail
Stony Pass
Cunningham Gulch
Uncompahrge Pass
This is just to list a few. What I would do is make a weekend trip down there and just check it out and see if its something you want to do.
