Hello all,

Got a newbie question for you. I am interested in getting myself and my son onto quads for some tame riding. Let me share a few key facts about us. I am 49, and have never ridden a bike or a quad before. My son is 12, and he rides a little 49cc machine around our property. My plan is to find a couple of used name brand machines - most probably sport machines rather than utility machines.

One of my big concerns is where to ride. We live in the Santa Cruz mountains, but don't own a large parcel of land. So riding at home is just a stopgap. I know about some of the local off-road parks (Metcalf, Hollister, etc). I know I need to go check them out, but I hear these areas are usually quite crowded. Hollister has a reputation of being the most used off-road park in the state. Neither one of us is the daredevil type, so even once we get our sea legs I don't anticipate us running with the big dogs at high speed.

So are there other lands that are perhaps a bit less travelled? Does anybody out there have some favorites that might fit our needs? I don't want to get started in this activity only to find that there is no place to ride without getting in everybody else's way.

Hollister Hills is with in a couple hours of you, It is a great family place, with plenty of facilitys, As far as riding, it has begginer to advance trails to ride, a quad track, and multiple tracks for dirt bikes.
