I'm looking at a 2008 sportsman 500 (300 miles) with some nice features for $3800 (I know, I know- CVT!) - which would leave me some x-tra $$ to fix the wife's car and still give me a nice solid atv for the trails.

I'd love to owne the rene, but no winch or racks kinda sucks- the popo is nice, but not as fun as the rene...

Well you can guess my advice...if the Rincon is in good shape of go with that. It's got plenty of power, smooth ride, fun to drive. And most importantly, you can easily sell it quick if you want it gone.
