Hey guys tryingto keep this post alive and see if there are any locals out there from Pennsylvania who would want to dosome riding. Talon400 started a great tread here in 99, there have been so manyintelligent responses from locals who know the land. Seems they all have givenup on the forum as times have changed. I know riding isn’t as it used to be andis a sensitive subject for locals, but I personally see so many trails that arestill actively ridden off the highways (78, 80, 81, 61) in pa which is awesome.Does anyone have information on trails that border the towns of Hazelton otherthan RAC (coal mines). I have spoken with some guys recently who say there areendless trails that they are actively riding 70mile runs every weekend and havebeen riding those trails for 40yrs, but they seem they leave it at that. Othersstate that most of the land is game land and can’t be ridden anymore. I am wellaware of RAC permits but another local said that it is a waste of money as thereis so much free land to ride. Cost is by no means a factor but im looking tosee if any locals from out that way (Hazelton, Carbondale, Mountain Top,Freeland, Pottsville, Minersville, Shamokin, Trevorton, St. Clair, Reading,Hamburg, Wilkes-Barre) would be willing to open their groups rides- singleweekend rides, whatever rides anyone does to allow me the chance to ride withyou. I just want the opportunity to meet a great group of people who already havefun and would give the chance to share their experiences. I am no novice rider guaranteed!PM is fine too as I respect anyone’s trails and not looking to share if able tobe apart.

Thanks Rider, I actually am from Central Jersey but have family around Pa. Since I was a kid (30 now) I have seen these trails and always wanted to get on them. Its just amazing to see these trails go from town to town over hundreds of miles. I have had some good luck getting advice from locals and have even talked to guys who say the trails I have seen around hazelton (as an example) off the highways are still rideable. Some say the locals frown upon out of towners, which I totally understand because those who disrespect the land ruin it for those who live there. This is one of the reason I want to meet a local so I am not just wandering around nor do I want to be out there by myself. RAC land I wouldn't mind so much but its the backwoods off the chart trails that I just wish I could get on.

Yeah, I agree. Some of those trails run over peoples private land, its always better to have a local that everyone knows and can show you where to go. I worked with a guy several years ago that used to go to a public riding area up there, but I don't work with or know him anymore, and for the life of me I cant remember the name of it or where it was specifically in PA. He always used to rave about it though, Ill have to look at one of the online riding maps to try and refresh my memory.
I'm born and raised in DE but I used to have quite a bit of family around PA (Willow Street/Lancaster area mainly). Where is your family from?

Yea I agree would hate to cause any problems. I have family in ebensburg Johnstown Altoona area.. Also in wellsboro, tioga county Harrisburg and east stroudsburg. A lot of guys ride The lost trails in Dunmore pa but say it's very rocky, at this point I'll be heading there and in spring I'll grab my permit for RAC in hopes to meet some locals that travel miles passing through or end up there. I'm kinda thinking those guys who started these trail systems and have great knowledge of these backwoods probably aren't internet savy and are probably near their end of riding, hopefully they passed this info on to family to keep these trails alive.

Sounds like a fun spring trip. If ever you find yourself a little farther south and need a riding partner, give me a shout
