Default NH registration questions

Ok, i have finally lost my patients with Ma as they closed all the forests due to the tropical storm...i suspect they will be closed for the rest of the season.
So i am considering getting a NH registration, i see that i have to go to shop listed on thier site, but i dont see how the reg works. Is it for a calendar year or would it be one year from purchased month?
Also when you register do you recieve trail maps or a link to a site where they can be viewed?
Is little mondanock the closest area to Ma? I see a few of you guys ride there, when do they close the riding down? would i be better off waiting till next season?
I do realize being a ma resident i pay more, but i want to ride.
Thanks for any info.

It is a calendar year registration that begins on June 1st. You don't receive any maps from the state. Maps are made by the individual clubs. Some require membership, some let you buy their maps for a few bucks. LMFT is one of the closest to the Mass. border, especially if you live in central Mass. Some riding areas close when frost starts happening and the ground freezes overnight and thaws during the day. Makes for a nasty soupl that gets rutted really easily. Some riding areas allow winter riding once there is a certain amount of snow on the ground. Typically, these areas allow mixed snowmobile/ATV riding so you would be riding on groomed trails. OHRVs in NH has a lot of good information.

Moose..Thanks for the response. i checked out the link and it appears as though there is a 14 month available for $86 to non residents. I assume i must purchase this in person at one of the retailers.

Also since you mentioned that clubs run the trails would it be best to join one and assuiming it would do you know of any close to Ma? i live on the south coast, but dont mind the drive.

You do have to purchase at the retailers. Some require your license to show you are a licensed driver. You will also need the VIN of your quad, model year, and size of engine. If you live on the S. coast of MA I would try LMFT first. Good variety of trails, decent scenery. The club provides a map when you join. I'm a member of Sullivan County ATV in Claremont, NH. Pretty good trails. Some have deep water/mudholes. About an hour north of LMFT. Another riding area that's not too far is Hopkinton/Everett in Dunbarton. Has a nice sandpit and some decent trails.

Wilson

How are the Hopkinton/Everett trails? Thinking of hitting those with my kids. Thoughts?

Not Wilson, but can answer for you. They're pretty good. Not tons of miles though. There are some nice trails that are fairly smooth roads for riding with the kids. There's also a trail called Stark Pond Loop that leads to a pretty good sized sand pit that's fun to play in. There will probably be a couple of water holes here and there that might be deep enough that the kids would want to go around. I almost got stuck with a 4x4 on one of them. To get there you go up Route 93N to Rte 89N and take Exit 2 off 89. Take a left at the end of the ramp. You will be on Rte 13. Go a couple miles and Rte 13 will take a 90 degree left. Go straight through this intersection and you'll be on Rte 77. Half mile to a mile on the left will be Ray Road. Take this road and follow it to the end and take a right. Parking will be just ahead.

PS There are a couple of MX only trails. Don't go on them!!!! I had a nasty "trail of death" experience on one of them there. Signs had got blown down and the quad fit... The MX trails have two upright 4x4 posts at the start of them.

BG

Sounds good. Possibly tomorrow after the kids get out of school.
