out of curiosity, how long of a drive would it be from say...Sandusky Ohio? What town or city is most nearby for a map\mile search on the net? The Ohio pike is our way in from Pa.

Extreme:
Silver Lake would be about a 6 hour drive from Sandusky. The dunes are located in Mears, Michigan. The towns of Hart and Shelby are also nearby, so you might have better luck with your map search. I might also be there for opening day, April can't arrive soon enough!

Steve,
It's about 5 hours when I went there last summer. I live in Ohio about 45 minutes East of Ft Wayne IN. If you have a little extra cash buy the Rand McNally trip maker & street finder CD rom. They work great. April 1st??? Better bundle up that morning!

Oh yeah, they open April 2nd. The April 1st is just a really cruel April Fools day joke!

I'm joking...

Steve,
Just out of curiousity I ran the Tripmaker.
From Sandusky to Mears MI. It says 312 miles. And it will take 5 hours & 11 minutes. This is with the default speed limits & settings. Which I think are conservative. If you drive like most people drive (like me, normal just a little over the speed limit. The limit on 4 lanes in MI is 70 mph) I would bet you can get there in under 5 hours.
