Riding Double
#1
Has anyone ever ridden double at Wayne National Forest? I can't find anything in the official rules that says anything against it. I'm just curious if anyone has been approached by a forest ranger on the trail about it. Oh yeah, spare me your lectures on NOT riding double. Thanks!

Before I get going, those are nice pic’s. I wouldn’t attempt to ride double on the 400, but the Polaris might be OK. I don’t know about the Wayne NF but can only tell you what I know about where I’ve ridden. Wisconsin is cool about double but Minnesota is not. I had to do some quick talking to convenience a DNR ranger I was being safe. I thought I was going to pay $$$ but got out of there OK. You have to show the intent to be safe. For the passenger, its wearing a helmet and something for your passenger to hang onto besides yourself, and a place for feet, including a safe and reasonable speed for the quad and passenger. My wife does not want to drive she wants to take pictures and enjoy the ride. We don’t wear helmets all the time so we can hear each other. When I take my 12-year old, he does not have good trail experience so why wreck someone’s else’s ride. Besides I like to know where he is and when he’s on the back of my quad, I know.
Even if someone stops you for riding double, they may not fine you for riding double, but something like reckless use of vehicle or whatever, so hopefully you can justify.
Hope you have a good time in Wayne, post some pic’s for us.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on riding the 400EX or riding wild on the Polaris. Just didn't want to plan on it, then get harassed for riding double even if I was going slow.
EXtreme - Those are some good pics. I should have some updates soon.

We ride double there all the time.. never had a ranger say a thing..
They bust people for:
Riding off the designated trails... (but thats where all the good hills are)
Stay off the gravel unless it's designated mutli use.. thats a ticket for sure.

It's not enforced at WNF, and if you both have helmets and appropriate riding gear, and are proceeding in a safe manner, they won't bother you. Of course, if you're screaming along, and neither has helmets, wearing not much more than shorts and tanktop?
My youngest is handicapped, and unable to ever pilot her own vehicle. My wife and I will ride double with her, but we don't ride fast, and we pull over when we get near approaching traffic, either from the front or the rear. And she's always dressed like the brochures recommend, with boots and full-length clothes, and a helmet.
