Blue ridge mountains GA and Tellico NC ??????
#2
Hello ProEMTPFF, We rode Tellico last fall and had a blast. We were exhausted at the end of the day each day. There is a good article on Tellico if you go to the atvconnection home page, click trails under resources, then go to ATV Conn article on North Carolina Riding. This is a good article on Tellico and has the rangers address and phone number for this area. I am sure if you contact them you can get a map. Hope this helps.

I will email you a list I compiled from the Ga DNR web site. It lists all of the ATV trails in the northern part of the state. I have ridden Whissenhunt and Oakey Mtn trails. My prefference so far is Oakey Mtn. Post when you are going to be up this way and maybe we can hook up one weekend for a ride.

I'll be at the The Last Resort, 45 Last Resort Pass Blue Ridge, GA from Aug. 5-10. Might stay few more days to head over to Tellico NC. Thanks everyone for the info. TL4x40 let me know if those dates are good for you. I'll be up there playing with my DS 650 and my 1999 Jeep TJ. There are trails for Jeeps correct? Also is this resort near the trails you mentioned?

You are probably going to be beat when you get in on the 5th but if you wanted to hook up on the morning of the 11th I might be able to get up that way, If you opt to stay a little longer.
You are going to be staying in the center of the state. Whissenhunt and Oaky Mtn are going to be 1 - 1 1/2 hr from you to the east. Houston valley is going to be about the same to your west. I have not been there yet but I have talked to a couple of people who have and they really liked it.
The best point to meet if you were going on up to Tellico would be Oakey Mtn. We could meet there early AM, ride for the day then you would be only 1 - 1 1/2hr from Murphy. I usually meet Mike Penland up there to ride. He lives near there and rides most every Sat that he is not traveling the GNCC circuit. He rides his Kaw supplied 650, I'll try to keep up with you guys on my little 400. LOL It is a really good place to ride if you like mountain top trails and a couple of rocky hill climbs thrown in.
Jeep trails other than Tellico might be a bit of a trick to find. Most of the state ORV areas have a 48" axle max. I will send you some more links to the trails info and you could look there. Those links will also give you phone #'s for the district rangers and they are usually very helpful.

WOW!, DON'T GO TO TELLICO.You will have the worst time of your life on a DS. The Jeep may be fun though. Bring some spare parts for the Jeep if you go on trail 2 (Rock Garden), trail 11,12, 7, or 9. If your Jeep is stock stay on trail 4, 6, or maybe 5. For info or maps of Tellico go to WWW.4WDRIVER.COM, or www.off-road.com
Houston Valley is the place to take the DS650. Twenty eight miles of woods riding with alot of jumps. Your bike would be perfectly matched for this trail system. Skip Oakley Mountain and go to Locust Stake trail system. More trails to ride and a better fit for your bike.

The Jeep is a 1999 Wrangler TJ with a 5 inch suspension lift, 2 inch body lift, 35 inch mud tires, quick disconnects for the sway bar, 4.56 gears, some motor hop-ups. It will handle some extreme rock crawling BUT I don't want to screw my Jeep up so I'll just hit the easy to moderate stuff. I'm looking for ATV trails and some trails where both can go so the DS can "scout" for the Jeep. Is Tellico more of a 4X4 ATV place than a sport? Argo, if you know of any links to Locust Stake trail system could you please post or e-mail them to me? Thanks and keep the info comming for these places. I want and need to make the most of this vacation. I'm a Firefighter-Paramedic in Florida and have been busy..........need to have fun and relax.
