Thinking about taking a trip to the OHV area off of Rasor Rd. Anybody been there? How is it as far as the dunes go? Would it be worth it to change my tire out for a paddle? Any info and directions too good spots in this area will be greatly appreciated...Thanks

Rasor is one of my favorite spots!!! Even on Holiday weekends it isn't very crowded. The riding area isn't huge, but there is lots of variety: sandy flats, a nice set of dunes, and trails in the hills. You can also access Afton canyon. Most people ride cross country out to the dunes, so you don't see many bikes with paddles.

For camping, at the store take the road to the left. It heads East then turns South. If you go about 6 miles, there is an area with a few trees (ok large bushes), and this is probably the best area for camping. If you have kids, there is a large flat area where they can ride around and practice, and you can keep an eye on them from camp. Resist the urge to camp in the big cottonwood trees at the end of the road. They have great shade, but the flies will drive you crazy!

We always spend Thanksgiving out there. We usually have 5-10 families and 30 or more riders. Some of the guys who go with us have been riding the place all their lives (one guys DOG IS NAMED RASOR!), and know every trail and canyon there is!!! If you are out there Thanksgiving, we would be glad to show you around. see http://www.ca.blm.gov/barstow/rasor.html
