WNF Athens Update
#1
Well I spent the weekend Riding at Wayne National Forest Athens Nov 9th - 11th.
Some good news:
From the pipe bridge (where the food stand is set up) all the way to new straightsville parking lot is 100% fixed! The trail is in perfect condition, all 14 miles of it. Not a low wet spot, or a nasty rut anywhere, we were in heaven riding over on that side of the park.
From the pipe bridge to dorr run loop:
It's still not been touched. It's in horrible shape, the rock hill @ 278 is still fubared. We found out that the hill @ 278 isn't going to be fixed until spring, and at that time a complete diversion will be made around the bad part.
A couple parts of Dorr Run loop had been fixed. 8 Bridge trail has been completely reworked, along with one or 2 other spots, but thats about it, so dorr run is still in pretty rough shape.
I didn't make it over to long ridge, so I can't say what kind of shape it's in.
It was really nice to see some of our pass dollars at work! They were finishing up the last little part near the pipe bridges, had 2 bulldozers and a truck bringing in gravel, they were even working on a saturday.
Just trying to pass along some friendly news.. Peace
Brad

We rode Sunday, we had a huge group...stuck to the DR loop though. Parked at the pop shack and rode over. We don't go anywhere near that rock hill off 278, we ride the road out and around.
Hmmm..wonder if we passed you at any point Sunday?? We saw a lot of Raptors out and about....
Our ride this time claimed a Warrior frame & a 660R tie rod & our friend is banged and bruised up from wrecking his 300ex at the slag pile.
A ride we had a few weeks ago claimed a set of handle bars and two axles!!
Makes a girl paranoid to even ride now!!! NOT!!!!
It's nice to finally hear the MC is groomed but the timing sux!!!!!

We really didn't ride much sunday.. we were kind of hung over, and well, hung over. It was our annual guys ride, which is always an ugly event. (But we had a good time saturday night)
Saturday is the day we rode.. and we did about 60 miles..
Sorry to hear about all your mishaps! Hope your buddy on the 300ex is ok.
We had some minor issues over the weekend as well. One 350x motor snapped a valve.
I had a flat on saturday, a 2 inch hole cut in my left rear tire while running about 50 mph on the new straightsville loop, I had to ride back to dorr run on 2 flat tires. (I deflated the other one so at least the ride height was the same) I actaully made it without breaking the bead, but it was kind of loose in the rear end! 22 Miles back, I was amazed it held together.
Yamaha tie rod ends are notorious for breaking, that doesn't suprise me at all.. but the axles, and ack, a warrior frame??? ya'll are rough on your stuff!!
Remember.. if you don't use your helmet now and then, you aren't having fun

Nice Report B.B.-- I was along for the ride with SLB. Lots 'o upside-down smiles Sunday! The best one was the Raptor tie rod repair. We had to remove it from the machine, and put it in the crotch of a tree to bend it back into shape! We then did a "hillbilly" alignment and we were on the road again!
Trails at DR were the worst/dustiest I have seen them. I still sneezing that s--t out today!
Later, Mike.

I rode the New Straitsville loop and the main corridor on Sunday. It was awesome. The best shape I've ever seen it. Some really cool 4th or 5th gear sweepers in there now too.
Mike, sounds like y'all had to emprovi... improvas... impru... heck you know... "Jerry Rig" some quads so they'd make it back. Didn't have to break out they zip ties and duct tape did ya?
