ATV Ride - Ocala Forest
#11
i live in ocala ,actually silver springs, and i have encountered none of the problems described in other replies about ocala nat. forest. i am there usually 2 times a month or so sometimes with wife and kid. nitwits and jerks are not unique to the area but they can be there. have respect for others right to use the national forest, there is plenty of room for everyone in o.n.f. it is a great place to ride. sand and mud dominate the area and there are not many hills {it is central florida you know}. easiest way to get to big scrub camp/ride area is off of hwy. 40, turn south on forest road 588 about 15-20 miles east of ocala.588 is only marked by a forestry road sign fairly close to it. 588 is paved about 1/2 mile in or so but it turns to a well maintained dirt road. big scrub is approx. 8 miles from hwy 40. $4 a day per vehicle in campground. restrooms, outside showers, fresh water {bring your own hose},garbage cans, onsite supervisor, primitive campsites only. hunters are there in season only, otherwise bikes and quads rule. enjoy yourself but respect the land and others and we all can have fun. it is our national forest.hope this helps.
