Since I have family that actually has a place there in Ocala, I am in that area on vacation occasionally. One thing I have noticed is the number of thugs 4-wheeling in the forest. The only time I see them is when they run out of beer (since I have'nt atv'ed in the forest yet), and it's pretty clear that they are not worried about being pulled off when on the primary roads.
Also, there are many people (gypsies, roagues, whatever you wanna call them) that live in the forest.....drive by at night and you will notice camp fires burning. THis could easily pose a problem for a broke down rider or a rider thats lost or out past sunset.
I would also like to do some riding there sometime....but with at least another rider and probably with protection as well.
ROPADOPA....I have heard that there is some place near Ocala that one can go and pay like 5 bucks to ride in a private area? Is this true?

garryc660R,
I could'nt agree with you more. I have always felt that it was safer to ride in a group and that is really my intention here. Always safety in numbers i.e 10 of us and two of "them".....no problem. You can in fact park at lake delaney for $5.00 per day but I am not sure that it is worth it since the trailhead is only .5 miles away. From talking with the rangers ...it looks like they (the rangers) are trying to " strongly suggest" that all of the Atv'ing be done at Big Scrub or on the west side of Lake Delaney. Lake Delaney looked at lot more friendly to me. I have personally never ridden in Ocala...so we need a group and a couple of people that are familiar with the area.
What do you think ? Mike, Daytona Beach

I would heed to the rangers advise. I may be making a Daytona trip in the spring, if the trip is a go, I will contact you for some possible riding. Later.

I went riding in the national forest about 5 years ago and rode up on some freaks. They had guns and started chasing me in their truck. I had a big bear at the time with a .357 stashed in the compartment. Luckily I lost them and didn't have to use Mr. S&W. I totally agree that you should go riding in groups.

Me and my dad went down and both took our SP 500's (his is a HO) anyhow we had no problem with anybody down there. Parked at Big Scrub and rode a little around there but we also went from one end of the power line to the other total riding was over 100 miles. They were hunters in the woods (on the roads actually) hunting with dogs. They didn't mind us keeping the deer stirred up.

Gene, I haven't been down there for a month or so. Have you ever rode at Blackstill? There's also a killer hole off Sugarloaf mountain road. Do you know a guy named tater that rides off 33?
