I'm taking a fishing trip to Moose Lake MN, near Ely, and my bro-in-law and myself are bringing our quads. Does anyone live in that area that can point out some trails for us to ride? We were looking for private trails, since we dont have your states trail passes, but if we need to get them, do they have out of state, short term use permits? We'll be up there a week, I don't want to pay an arm and a leg just for 1 or 2 days of riding. Anyone who can help, email me at xgzx@earthlink.net Thanks.

Well, according to a map, its just east of Ely, right on the Canadian border, off of Rt. 169. Duluth is quite a bit farther south. Bill450es, thanks for the info. I'm checking out those sites right away.

xgzx,

If you have tag's and registered for Ohio, you don't need tag's for MN. Some of the ATV trails up north are closed until May, but most open in April. There is a town called Moose Lake on 35W, south of Duluth. There is also a lake called Moose Lake up by Ely. That's the werid thing, (towns and lakes may have the same name) Our opener is not until May? why fishing now? Lakes are soft but you could walk out on them to fish from holes. Dress warm.

I have not been there to experience it first hand, but I am told that Ely advertises itself as the first ATV friendly city in Minnesota. I have heard that there is a marked trail into and through the city for those needing gas and supplies.
Anybody been there to confirm?

Hi I'm from Babbitt Minnesota which is about 15 minutes from Ely. I have not ridden any of the trail in Ely but there are some that are posted for atvs. They are mainly just old rail road grades and gravel pits though. I ride around Babbitt and have never needed to go to Ely to ride. There are many trails to ride around Babbitt. The town is very four-wheeler friendly as long as you don't mess around on the streets. The streets are almost all legal to ride on though. If you come up this way I would be willing to take you for a ride around Babbitt if you were interested in driving the 15-20 miles to Babbitt.

Smith,
I just might take you up on the offer. Like I said, won't be up there until Sept., but if you send your email address to me at xgzx@earthlink.net, I'll send you an email around the time of my trip and we can finalize a meeting then. Hope to see you then.
