wow, the mammoth area sounds like alot of fun. I have been snowmobiling alot in the mammoth area but never taken our atv's there. That volcano thing sounds awesome. Maybe sometime in mid to late july we should plan a ATVconnection ride in the mammoth area. THat would be cool. I know we and some of our friends would go. going down into a volcano cone would be cool, i have seen pics of that area before in the summer and it looks wild, in the winter of course we make our own trails. This year has been a pretty low snow year so i am betting by july there should only be some patches of snow. In fact we might be going snowmobiling down there this weekend. SHould be fun. We should plan a ride for that area in july. Who else is up for it. YZGUY, you seem to know the area very well so what do ya say? Sean

That sounds like an interesting ride, how far do you think it is round trip? Is the trail well marked or is it fairly easy to get lost. My wife and I might try it this weeeekend as well

Hi Bearman,
I believe the ride is 45 miles round trip. I have not done the ride before but I was invited to go this Saturday 4/27. The person who invited me rides a CR500 and the rest of his group are motorcycle riders. He likes to haul *** and burn gass! Probably lots of woops. The town and bar look cool...did an internet search. I am going to drive in a (car)race/rally at the 29 palms airport on Sat. so post details of your trip if you go....

My buddy takes Mule Train road (I think) out to Cadillac and makes a left. park anywhere and head north east to Randsburg.

Later!

Blueleader and Bearman-BLM has closed a lot of the roads (not just trails) in the Randsberg area (save the tortoise or something like that). You might want to give the Ridgecrest BLM office a call before you head out. This weekend we were going to do Spangler Hills (BLM open area, East of Randsberg on the Trona Road), but alas, my kids talked me into one last Glamis trip for the season, so we are going there (I think it will be WINDY!).

Jetsnow-We're up for a ride any time. Fortunatly, I have a flexable work schedule, so I can do a long weekend any time. I don't think a sport bike will make the Wheeler Crest ride though!

Everybody-The map from the Mammoth web site is pretty good. I suggest gettin it. Of course, it only covers the rides near town (it is sponsored by the visitors bureau after all), but it is a good place to start. I recommend the Laurel Lakes ride, but it is a bit technical.

Bear,
how was it!!! I always eat too much at the Slash X
While preping my quad to go out on Saturday I discovered my oil level was quite low AND SMELLED LIKE GAS!!! And I thought I was just running rich with a new filter setup. So I drained it tore it down and I am ready for a big bore rebuild. Oh well. Time to support CT, Trinity, Sparks or whoever.

That is a shame about your Raptor, but a stroker is making lemonade from lemons for sure. The guys over at Trinity are good people and build some screaming Raptors but I have also heard good things about Sparks racing. Slash X was great but a lot of people were there. They had a bbq Saturday night that was terrific and yes I ate to much.

Has anyone been to Corral Canyon in the summer? I am looking for close summer time riding from San Diego.

I have not ridden Corral Canyon, but you can call Descanso Ranger District 619-445-6235 for info. There is also Wildomar (in the Mtns behind Elsinore??), Trabuco Ranger District 909-736-1811. And the San Jacinto Mtns., San Jacinto Ranger District 909-659-2117. Most ranger districts will have riding area maps that they can send you. These aren't real close to San Diego, but you could be there in a 1-2 hr drive. Seems like every time I camp in the San Bernardino Mtns., my neighbors are always for San Diego.

Hi everyone, Im quite new here, in fact I dont as of yet have a quad, I still ride a dirt bike, but as of late I have been thinking about riding quads, I am still recovering from a nasty broken leg/ankle and have no real movement yet in the ankle (bad stuff on a dirt bike) plus Im not getting any younger so the quad is sounding real good now. I have ridden in most of the area's that you have listed and they are quite fun (atleast on a 2 wheeler) but this Mammoth/Bishop/Rock Creek riding sounds great! We go up there for camping, mountain biking, and fishing one or two times a year, and now I can take a quad with me!! I better think real hard about this. I have never ridden a quad, we ride in the same area's (except for the dunes), how does a ex 2-wheeler do on a quad?
On most of those roads you listed, if not all of them, are you not required to have a lic. vehicle, I know about the green stickie, but I didnt think that you can ride on the forestry roads with out a plate. Please remember Im new to these multiple wheeled gismo's, and they are veiwed a bit different than bikes.
Bob
