Help!! Where to ride in South dokata or wyoming??
#2
I went out to the Black Hills in South Dakota years back, lots of old logging roads to ride, and trail systems in the forest. Really nice scenery, just have to watch the trail for cow pies, some areas are set up for free range cattle ranching,so any gates you come to must be closed behind you,or landowners will get peeved. Not to mention, lots of old caves to explore, and the Custer wildlife area is awesome to drive through(with the truck,no atvs)and see the herds of buffalo.Go to the SD dnr site and see if they can give you info and maps of riding areas,it was a good camping/riding trip, and I'd like to go back some time. Wherever you decide, have fun,be safe, and respect nature !

We vacation in Wyoming every summer. In the Bridger National Forest. There are some dirt/logging roads you can ride on. Though most of the rangers we have come upon aren't very ATV friendly, most people there are into horses.

For the Black Hills Forest area -
Contact Scott Spleiss (sspleiss@fs.fed.us) and he will help you optain a map ($8) and provide much insight to where and where not to ride. He's one of the black hills rangers. ATV friendly.

When do you plan to come to SD? It's an awsome place to ride!! We try to ride every weekend. There is also alot of old gold mines to explore. We usually ride in the northern and wyoming side of the Black Hills. If you want you sure are welcome to join our group on a day that you're here. Always enjoy more riders, the more the more fun it is. Our family homesteaded in the Black Hills so we know some places that are not on a map. But if you want to ride alone that is great also cuz the hills are so awsome!! I can help u to find some trails depending on what kind of trails you want. Like gold mines, veiws, animal, or my favorite great mudding trails! Let me know thanks!!

VMAXER, You can ride on almost all the snowmobile trails except thro private land and that is posted. The state pays the owners a fee from november thru march for the use of their land for snowmobiling. If you have a game, fish and parks trail map that shows the snow trails it will also show where the private land is. You can ride any trail on gfp land and also all of the logging roads, they really don't say anything about riding the main gravel roads either. Just don't ride too much on the hiways. we've never had a problem anywhere.
Went out today and it was awsome...lots of mud!! We only rode around the tinton and higgins gulch area, You get up too high like to Iron Creek Lake and there was too much snow to buck. If you plan to come out the spring and fall are the best times. You either see alot of wildlife in the spring and alot of color in the fall.
You can go to fs.fed.us/recreation and click on maps and it will tell you how to get a forest map.
As always we welcome visitors to ride with us also,
Well I hope this has helped you some.

All of the Western States have a ton of National Forest & BLM land open atv's/dirt bikes/4x4's. Get a map of any western state, pick a Forest or BLM area, and contact the Ranger or manager for that area for rules & regs on off-roading. Even here in the Peoples Republic of California, most roads and trails on National Forest land are open to quads unless specifically posted otherwise. Idaho is about the best place in the country for quantity of off-road opportunities. Approximately 1/3 of the toal acreage of Idaho is owned by the government, much of that is National Forst or BLM. If you like riding for hours without seeing another human being, this is the place for you.
