Rushford Lake, NY has plenty of riding room on the "State Land". Fair warning, you may want to bring a GPS, because it can get pretty confusing back there. Also, Marienville PA isn't too far -- if you have your machines registered and insured, it's a truly awesome place to ride. There are way over 50 miles of designated, freshly-groomed ATV Trails, an MX Track, and friendly people if you get into trouble. It is free to ride there until July 1st, where you will have to purchase a tag to ride your ATV there ($35 for one year's use). They are open for the winter season as well. It's about two hours from Buffalo, but WELL worth the ride. Call the Ranger's office for directions, they are open seven days/week. Also, Chestnut Ridge park in WNY also allows you to ride, but only in winter, when there is one inch of snow on the ground. Anywhere else I can think of is illegal.

Here is the "new" ATV policy for operating an ATV in PA. If you are from out of state, you must have registration/insurance that is valid in your state to ride the Marienville, Timberline, or any other Allegheny National Forest trails. I once bought one of my machines used from a private seller, with cash -- the thing did not have a title, registration, or any other documents. (Was a farm machine). I went down to the DMV and they requested proof of the VIN number (i.e., me rubbing the VIN from the frame onto art paper with a crayon) and after filling out some paper work they issued me a title and registration. After that I insured the machine by calling up the same insurance broker I use to insure my cars. The whole process, registration, insurance, and all took about three hours. I'm not sure how it would work in Ohio, but no state can be as **** about registration as New York -- so I'm sure you guys can get it done. Hope this helps!

I'm not exactly sure how to describe where it is. There is a road that is RIGHT near the lake -- right on top of it just about, actually. About 1/4 mile up that road on the left is a yellow (I think) sign that will say "New State Land...blah blah...1650 Acres", and that's where the trail head is. It's mostly old logging roads and pretty easy riding. I guess it's legal -- nobody has ever bothered anyone there to my knowledge anyway. Like I said in that earlier post -- bring fuel and GPS if you have one. It can get kinda confusing back there once you get goin.
