I'm looking for places to ride in Alberta, as well as British Columbia, Canada. I'll be in that area in August. I'd also like to know if anyone has been hassled by the Canadian Border Patrol for bringing an ATV across from the US. TIA

You are okay coming north across the border, the only time you have a hassle, is if you are bringing across fire arms,if you do you will have to register them..as where to ride .In the calgary area. mclean creek, west of a town called Brag Creek about 30 to 45 min from Calgary. I will get in touch with later with other areas. me and my buddy are going to the map store to get maps on quads trails in the province. When I get the mapes I will let you all know...

Expeditioneer, I found a web site www.aohva.com this is for most of the trails in Alberta Canada. I also found a book named backroadMapbooks you can also find this on the web. I hope this can help you or any body else. p.s. the trails near the Rockies are the best, like Fallen Timber and Mclean Creek. The web page will tell you how to get there.

Bigcat; I've ordered and received the books; "Central Alberta", "The Kootenays", and "Cariboo" from Backroad Mapbooks. There really aren't many ATV trails listed, but lots of mountain bike, hiking, fishing, etc. Thanks for the tip, anyway. I've also downloaded the data on the trails from www.ahova.com, so that may be a more productive source for good riding. I really like high altitude trails, so if you have any recommendations, please let me know. It looks like Colorado, USA, trail riding is out this year. Expeditioneer, If you like high altitudes I would have to say Southern Alberta, the www.waiparous.com area, they have a pretty good map. We went for a ride a couple of weeks ago, and ended on top of a mountian a little scarey, but it was fun. Driving through rivers, creeks, mud holes and up and down steep trails, is this the kind of riding you like ? We have it. On the map it was on the north west corner. I wish I had some pictures. This ride lasted 10 hours, we got a little lost, for we where looking for avalanche lake, we found it. The best part was the ride and the view. We saw lots of deer (mule & white tail) and good fresh signs of elk and moose.

See my post on airbox mods for high altitude riding in the "Other ATV Topics" section of the forum. My neighbors are retired, and they spend winters down here, and summers in BC. They take their bikes back and forth across the border all the time.

Bigcat;
Yes,I've printed out the maps from the site you quoted. Many thanks. Seems like I've read somewhere (I believe on the sci.geo.satellite-nav newsgroup that I can buy Canadian topo maps at many places in Canada, and I'm hoping these might have trails mapped on them. Of course, if they indicate "Jeep" trails, as the US Topo maps do, then I'd know I can ride them with my ATV. Thanks, again.
