never heard if it. I did find a place that sounds like it's in the same area. It's closed to atv's and dirt bikes tho.

Called rainbow basin

Lets see if I done this right.

On the map, Mud Hills is the area east and north of Rainbow Basin ACEC. It is an "regular" BLM area, ie. open to riding on established roads and trails.

Is that the area near the mormon/spanish trail? If it's west of the 15 about 20-30 miles north of Barstow it may be the same area. I've been camping/riding/shooting in that area. It's kinda cool to see all the old tracks across the desert from the Barstow to Vegas races.

The place I've been to is right by Alvord Mountain. Check out www.topozone.com they have USGS maps of the area. Search Barstow, CA

Well heck. I've never heard of this place and it's not on any of the California/blm riding maps.

Lemme know whats up there. I'm still trying to talk my friends into going to Rasor, But they have winterized their motorhome and don't plan on going out till the weather warms up......Funny it was 80 deg saturday :/

01-26-03 I'm going up Odessa canyon near Calico with a Jeep club. Gonna drag some new/stock Jeep liberty's up the rocks in that canyon! Look for us maybe in the hills above Calico or possibly on the way home on I-15.....I'll be the only International Scout in the bunch.

Looks like Rainbow Basin ACEC is on the southwest corner of Mud Hills. The place must be nice if the greenies are trying to lock us out of it!! They want to keep all the great scenery just for themselves!! I will be riding with a group that goes out there all the time, so I can just have them show me all the best trails. Then I won't have to discover them myself by trial and error. I'll let you know how it went.

We will most likely do Rasor/Afton Canyon on Presidents Day weekend. Would be glad to give you a tour of the place.

Hey, the ride was pretty nice!! The area is beautifull Joshua Tree woodland, with lots of nice camping spots. The valleys have nice FAST sandy trails with few rocks and it is not as badly whooped out as some areas. The hills and canyons get a little rocky, but the riding isn't particularly technical. In general, it is a great place to take the kids or beginners. If you are an expericenced rider, and want a fast desert ride (and have good suspension!!), it is great fun.
