Yep they want to pass a law which would require every city along a ditch to specifically pass an ordinance allowing riding. I just e-mailed every rep and senator in Minnesota. If you want to do the same, cut an paste the following names into outlook and let them know you ride and vote!

Ok despite the crappy weather i'm going to check out the 169 ditch. I think i'll make it 10:00am though. I believe afte apr1 we're out of luck. (Still confirming.)

 

Good to hear. I thought you were going to stay home. I will be there by then if not earlier. I am trying to find good sites on the exact laws for MN as well. Same parking lot, right?

Well now that was fun. Much funner when the ground isn't frozen and you can slog through the mud. A guy at Zimsports was saying that the DNR was confiscating ATV's for riding through mud. I was always of the opinion that if it is the bottom of the ditch you were legal. Anyone know anything about this stuff? I've not seen anything in the DNR guide or ATV statues.

This may be what was going on. I still want to know if they want us driving through the mud or around it which seems worse as it spreads out the ruts.

District 12 - St. Cloud area

CO Rick Reller (Buffalo) checked angler law compliance and gave several educational presentations. One to a Firearms Safety class in St. Michael attended by over 100 students and the other to approximately 50 attendees at a Turkey Clinic held at Hasty/Silver Creek Sportsmen’s Club.

CO Julie Olson (Princeton) worked on area lakes, issued a cease and desist order for a wetland violation, gave two presentations for firearms safety, took enforcement for litter, unlawful operation of off-highway motorcycles (OHM), all-terrain vehicle (ATV) driving while intoxicated (DWI), and shelter houses left illegally at public access. A dead bald eagle is being investigated possibly shot. Area lake ice is becoming unsafe with few venturing out.

CO Brad Schultz (Center City) worked angling enforcement on area lakes. Lake ice is deteriorating rapidly. The officer also worked fire enforcement, patrolled complaint areas on DNR wildlife management areas (WMA) for illegal ORRV activity, and made equipment run for division officers to Camp Ripley. Schultz assisted with an ATV enforcement detail in Princeton area where and individual was arrested for DWI and the ATV seized pending forfeiture proceedings. Road and state highway ditches are a mess in some areas from ATV's cutting trails through mud.

CO Mitch Sladek (Big Lake) investigated littering on area lakes; summons were issued. He spoke at a DNR Firearm Safety Education Class. He followed up on a Public Waters violation investigation and also issued Cease and Desist orders. He continued to follow up on numerous off road issues and complaints in the Sand Dune Forest.

Thanks, its bad enough when most riding areas are 2-3 hours drive from the metro area. Making all ditch riding illegal statewide would stress an already too small and rapidly closing network of trails up north.
