There is a "Tri county corridor" (Douglas-Bayfield-Ashland) that runs from Superior to Ashland. It is an old rail bed, kinda boring but you can get off it and head up into some better trails in Bayfield county.

Tri county is south of Dundas off of county road 3. Basically from Northfield, go south on 3 until you find 145 street. Turn left (east) on 145 and take the first right, which is Cabot. Go about 1/4 mile down Cabot (a dirt road) and the Tri County parking lot is on the left side. I have a map I can e-mail you.

I've never been to Bauer's pit but from descriptions I've heard and pictures I've seen I can tell you that Bauer's pit is larger than Tri County. I go to Tri County a lot, however, and for the groups I bring, I think it's perfect. Unlike Bauer's Pit, Tri County is ONLY for ATV's. It has a nice picnic pavilion too. I tend to bring more people than I have ATV's for and this place works well for such a thing. Every one takes turns and can, for the most part, watch the people that are out riding. Oh, and unlike Bauer Pit, Tri County is free. I encourage you to check it out, but you may find it a triffle small and unchallenging compaired to Bauer's Pit.
