Default Southern Minnesota riders ...your input is needed

Heres your oppertunity to have a say ...the MN DNR is looking for comments on expanding the tri county pit...and if its anything like the other times theyve done this....the opposition will respond and outnumber the riders who are for it, by a large margin.
If you want the area expanded, make sure you respond, and get your friends to do so as well.

This is also open to comments by out of state riders, we need all the positive comments we can get.

DNR seeks comments on proposed ATV recreation trail near
Faribault (2006-01-17)

http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/news/rele...?id=1137532028

A proposed expansion of the Tri-County ATV Park in Rice
County would create an additional two to four miles of
All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) recreational trail under a
Grant-in-Aid proposal submitted by Rice County on behalf of
the Tri-County ATV Club. If approved, grant funds would be
used to construct and maintain the trails, which are
planned for an abandoned gravel pit. The trails would be
open only to ATVs, as in the remainder of the park.

The new trails will be developed on approximately 10 acres
of land adjacent to the existing Tri-County ATV Park. It is
also bordered on the east by the Rice County Landfill and
the south by an auto salvage business. In addition to the
new trail mileage, grant funds will be used to develop a
connection to the existing site and on boundary fencing and
signing.

The added facilities will be operated and managed by Rice
County through the Tri-County ATV Club. The county and club
have been participating in the Grant-in-Aid program on the
existing facility since 1990.

The DNR invites public comments on the proposal. More
information and a map of the project location are available
on the DNR's Web site www.dnr.state.mn.us.

Comments or questions can be submitted to: Joel Wagar, DNR
Area Trails and Waterways, 2300 Silver Creek Road, NE,
Rochester, MN 55906. He can also be reached at (507)
280-5062; or by e-mail at: joel.wagar@dnr.state.mn.us.

Comments will be accepted until Feb. 17.

Thanks a lot for the heads up. This is a great opportunity for us riders! Everyone needs to take 10 minutes like I did and send a letter of support for this project in Minnesota. I will also be telling all my riding buddies about this!

I sent both an E-Mail and a letter...

---

Good day, Joel.

The DNR is seeking comments on a proposed ATV Recreation Trail near Faribault to expand Tri-County ATV Park by approximately 10 acres, as shown on the DNR website at http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/news/rele...?id=1137532028.
Please consider this a letter of support for this expansion.

Tri-County ATV Park is one of only 6 areas listed on the DNR Website as OHV Trails in Southern Minnesota. With the massive growth of ATV sales in the last few years, and with the fact that ATV registrations have now bypassed snowmobile registrations in Minnesota, people that own ATVs are going to continue to demand additional riding opportunities.

In Southern Minnesota, during most of the spring and summer, it is illegal to drive an ATV within the right-of-way of a state or county road. With the lack of riding opportunities in this area, expanding the Tri-County ATV Park is a great first step to provide additional riding areas. The proposed addition to the park was an active gravel pit until recently. Gravel pits are a perfect area for ATV trail expansion with minimal environmental impact. Also, many people that oppose ATV use are more comfortable if there are areas dedicated for these vehicles instead of letting them "wander". Expansion of the park will also make the park safer on busy weekends. More area means riders can spread out more.

I took advantage of the facilities at Tri-County at least every other weekend this summer for riding. Ray and Joan Trahan and their group have shown extreme dedication in keeping Tri-County ATV Park upkept and safe throughout the year. It is a place that I have seen parents take their entire family for an afternoon of fun. Expanding the area is a win-win proposition for both ATV riders and non-riders alike.

Thank you for your time!
